Ok here is a list of guys that offer deckie spots frequently. Some i have been out with and others that i havnt. This list can be added to. Its main purpose is for the young guys on the site that want a fishing trip but they or their parents are unsure about who is trustworthy.

Please let me know and i will add to the list with consultation with some of the other regulers on here. Dont feel offended if you are not on the list i dont know everyone. List can always be added to.

NO Name: (Rob Lowe) Always willing to have a deckie. Willing to let deckie drive the boat and teach them some rules and boating etticette. There is not a better person to learn from. does river, bay and outside trips.

Benno: (Ben Ebelt) : a young guy himself with heaps of knowlegde. Always a great day on the water with Ben. And he usually gets amongst a few fish as well. Not sure of weather he lets his passengers take the helm. Does River Bay and outside trips

Bootyinblue: (Greg) Was a boating/4wd instructer in another life. Very Safe. does river and bay trips. Small boat.

Rayke: (Ray Kennedy). A gerneral alround top bloke. Years of knowledge, always willing to lend a hand. A safe reliable skipper. Bay, river, Dam

Ellicat: (Brian). The joker. small boat bay and river trips. moderator on the site so very well known. Dont take chocolate on his boat cause he has enough to feed a small country.

Azza: Beautiful big flash boat. Bay, river and outside trips. A wealth of knowledge.

Safe. Can learn a lot about boating from this guy.

Brian D : Always a very accomodating skipper. If you want your ears talked off and an enjoyable day on the water you cant go wrong. Bay, River, Dam.

Boydy: Mad keen. Nice 5.2 meter boat. Loves getting out chasing anything that bites. Dont bring anything over 6lb for tuna though

Fishyman (Tom Slater): Awesome little set up with live wells and electric. Great little bream fishing boat as my trip to Brunswick attests to!. Tom has been competing and doing bloody well in the Bream Tournies lately so is wealth of knowledge of the prickle fish :P

Wesfish: Mad keen as well! Doesnt mind staying out from dawn till dusk which I love. Loads of knowledge on the River, Bay and more.

Aaron H Very safe, does not mind sharing his fishing gear. Took time to teach deckie new knots etc great boat setup. Recommended skipper. He specialises in freshwater electric dams and creeks.

Funfisher (Tristan): funfisher gets a big two thumbs up. Went out to the Pin with finfisher once and he worked very hard (despite a late night :P) to put us onto the fish. Cheers.

Chubbstar: (Jayson): Chubbstar is a great guy to head out with. Doesnt mind what you do or where you go, as long as there is fishing and good chat involved he is up for it!

Jimmybob: Jimmybob is not strictly a boating man although he does get out there occasionally. But if you like trekking through the wilderness chasing anything that takes a lure and light gear, this is a great guy to go fishing with.

Malcolm : (Malcolm West.) Small boat river estuary.Enjoys a chat cause he catches no fish. Safe and reliable.

Shortie: (Richard) 5.5 mtr boat. Safe reliable.(Well it was 400 years ago when i last put it in the water) I never promise people we will catch fish. But alsways a great day. out. Outside, bay river estuary Fresh. i dont care who drives my boat. Willing to let everyone have a go as long as they listen. Not the first time ive let someone drive all day and i have been the archor puller.

Pcsolutionman: Lee. Your almost always going to get fish with your with Lee. Ive never been on his boat with him as a skipper, but have had the pleasure of his experience on my boat. An awesome deckie will always make a good skipper.

Dhess: Dominik Very good skipper. A lot of time and thought goes into planning the trip. Safety first. Works very hard to get you onto fish and the results go to show this!

Shortie list is looking pretty awesome so far. Ill have a think as well.

I can personally vouch for noname, BrianD and Rayke1938 as I have deckied with them all.

I think to other commitments I have had to turn down deckie spots with the rest of the list as well so not having a go at their hospitality!!

Now for these guys benefit we will have to have a known and safe deckies list :P

I have actually made this post a sticky for those interested.

If anyone wants someone added or has a good report on a skipper either make a comment, or let shortie or I know to update.

In saying that if you see your name here and would not like to be known as a good skipper (to aboid possible PM requests) let me know as well.

Cheers.

Yep, I can vouch for Rayke, Benno and Rob as I've been on the water with them before. Great blokes with a wealth of knowledge.

I know next to nothing about boats or boating so am always glad to get the chance to learn more and these guys are happy to teach.

Good one Shortie, smart thinking.

I would like to nominate Aaron H as a good, realiable and knowledgable skipper. He specialises in freshwater electric dams and creeks. warning Aaron does have a problem - he is a diehard tackle rat of the highest order. In his language 1 rod means 4, a few lures means 2 bags full, and a couple of hours means at least 8 hours. No I am not complaining. Aaron has been known to go fishing in a boat from pre dawn to almost dark, then once back on dry land go to the local river or creek and land base fish for the other half of the day. Mad Keen Tackle Rat.

I would also like to mention Jeff and Lozel, both these guys are top class skippers, either one could easily be professional skippers with the amount of experience and knowledge they have. If you get a chance to go with either of these guys, take it as you will learn heaps.

Feral is another very trustworthy skipper. He has learnt from one of the best (Ray) but has adopted his own safe, causious and entertaining approach to mentoring deckies. With Feral, if you want to troll for period of time (other then getting from a to B) you will go home disappointed but if you want to cast at weed beds, sunken timber and or fishy bays you will be one happy fisho with a sore elbow. Feral drives a very sobering vessel.

I love fishing with Ray - he drinks too much, farts, smells and talks dirty.

Add jeff f to the list. Been out a few times, he knows his stuff and is safety conscience. Providing you can stand the smell... :)

Also, no drama letting others drive as long as they are comfortable doing so and listen to advice. My mrs drives a lot, both my sisters drive when I take them out, all people have to do is ask and be happy being taught or shown, don't be a know-it-all. I wouldn't let Ellicat near the helm until he gets new glasses!!!! ;)

Good safe skipper who looks after his deckies with food and drinks if you can ever get him to take his boat out.Oh and he catches less fish than me

I'll agree with this... If he ever took his boat out more people would say it!!! :P shortie even let me take his boat out offshore from 1770 twice without him on board. Top bloke.

:P Tacklerat, I learnt that from the best, anyone that sees a boat with me and Brian in it doesn't matter if its my little tinny or his cruise craft there is minimal room for movement, more space means more stuff to take

BrianD is an awesome skipper and a day on the water with him is never boring, and if you get an opportunity to fish with Ray take it, always big roomy boats, lots of local knowledge and when sitting out off Redland Bay in winter chasing Tailor he makes excellent coffee

Sorry Jeff but there are particular people that i feel are not safe.

If my 15 year old son was offered a spot on a boat by particular guy listed i certainly would not be allowing it.

Please guys remember to relate this to your children. Would you let them go out with a particular skipper without your supervision.

i see your point .

safe deckie spots for the teens.

it's about more than if u are just a good skipper and know about fishing ,when teen are involved.

i'm sure us adults are big and ugly enough to work out who we want to go out with.;)

haven't been out on a boat with any of the people here yet.

but on the list these are the people i have met and chatted to more than a few times and would let my 15 year old boy go out with.

noname ,rayke,ellicat,wesfish,shortie.

would have no problems as i know they would be looked after .

this is based on my gut feeling about them ,and talking to them and getting to know them.

I went out with Tugger and Kreel, Tug has my vote no problems :fishing:

I'm in need of experience and going out with Tugger I felt safe He passes on his knowlege, constantly points things of intrest and safety, he asks questions to find out what you do know to check your level of knowlege,

When we went out it was my first time with Tugger and Kreel and I wondered why Tugger put a harness on Kreel with a safety line I never said anything but after reading all these threads about Kreel I now know why Tugger did it he is a bit probe to accidents isn't he!lol

Azza - Is definitely a great Skipper. Has his own 2 young children so safety is paramount. And a pimp boat to boot :)

Snapsnap - a deckie is anyone on the boat that isn't the skipper :) You know how you see quite often here where boat owners put up a free spot to fill on their boat on AFO... that free spot is a deckie spot. Different skippers want different things from their deckies...fuel money, anchor pulling...etc.
