Is it too big?

Hi guys am currently researching a new combo I spose you'd say I'm pretty much a shimano person. So I'm heading down the path of a jewel 702 3-6kg, now I was going a 3000 series saros or stradic. Till I was at jones tackle on the weekend and one of the gentlemen suggested going a 4000 series for more line capacity just in case ya know. Rod is due to the purchase of a 4.2 tinny and will be used for say snapper, jewie, spotties, threadies etc. So by experience or be it just rules of thumb is a 4000 to big a reel for a rod with the specs 7'2'' , 3-6kg, cast weight 7- 21g?

I'd reckon so, but put the different combos together at the tackle store and you'll have your answer when you feel them.

I use a berkley dropshot 3-6kg and usually wears a 4000 size reel, mainly offshore and the brizzy river, but use a 2500 size reel for fishing on the dams.

pretty overkill for general river work, you may find it a bit clunky and unwieldy compared to a smaller reel if you're spending alot of time flicking lures around

I have the Raider 3 - 6 Kg with a stradic 3000 and it feels well balanced.

The stradic also come with a spare spool so you can have one spooled for the lighter side and the other for heavier fishing (I have 8lb on one and the other i think 14lb).

Not certain about the 4000 myself but I think it would be on the heavy side.

Thanks guys yeah will try them this weekend, the spare spool thing is why going no lower then a saros, to run say 10lb and a 15lb. A stradic ci4 would be nice get the 4000 with bugger all weight but a bit hexy.

Mate you should check out some US sites. They go quite cheap over there and with our dollar almost even you may get a good deal.
