sounder ticking

Whils out on the weekend the young fella asked me "what is that noise"? Always took it for granted that most sounders have an auidable return whilst others dont. your answers?

It depends on frequency and power, humans can only hear up to about 18KHz. Although most sounders for recreational boats are way above that frequency (due to operating in shallow water and the requirement for high definition in a fishfinder). So probably the clicks you hear are the frequency created by the 'ping' rate ie: transmit a sound-'listen' for an echo- transmit a sound- listen for an echo- etc,etc. So I reckon whether you can hear it ping or not would probably be dependent on the transmit power of the sounder.

I just read back through what I wrote and man I sound like a nerd :blush:
