Didn't get to the local dams yet, but while reading this months bnb, there was an article an pics on oakey weir, the pics of the park seemed very kid friendly for fishing an close to toowoomba. Can anyone advise on a good safe location plus simple rig set up, bait etc plus species. Even if kids caught a carp would excite them. Cheers john

Not sure about the safe location. But for a rig and bait, just a simple hook and small running sinker. If your just targeting carp use bread or corn. There is yellas there though so freshwater crays would be good also, with this theres chance of carp and yellas, good luck.

Oakey wier is safe. csan be a bit mushy under foot getting to the water.

Remember if your there to take string chopped up meat and a net.

And have fun with the kids chasing Yabbies.

I spent hours apon hours in Oakey doing this as a kid myself.

You will also get Plenty of Carp. And the occasional Yellow Belly.

Have never seen a bass caught in that area. But have seen the occasional Cod.
