I listened to a radio show in the UK a couple of years ago where the host said that if fish could vote then they would undoubtedly vote for anglers, the point he was making was that the average fisho has a respect and interest for fish that surpasses that of the average person and also that fisho's are usually the most active campaigners to reduce pollution and all other negative impacts (excessive commercial fishing, damegae caused by other water user's etc etc) on the environment they spend their recreational time in.

There are obviously exceptions to this rule and moronic and inhumane fisho's are around but if enough of us count ourselves on the right side of the line then we need not concern ourselves with the well meaning but usually misguided PETA organisation.

I think we need to be vigilant but when an organisation would have you banned from using a maggot as bait in consideration for the maggots feelings it put's their organisation into perspective
