Mooloolah River Crossing

Mooloolah River mouth has silted up again. Was out there Saturday to find a solid set breaking across the entire width of the mouth entrance.

As always, exercise caution around bar crossings. When leaving the river mouth, it's probably best to chuck a hard left around the western rock wall; it's certainly the deepest water which is what the survey shows as well.

Only a matter of time before someone gets flipped.

Hopefully it's dredged soon.

How's that, I just thought it was called the Mooloolaba river.

Thanks for the info.  Went out through it a few months ago in 2m seas and definaitely had to hug the mooloolaba wall and even head down into mooloolaba a bit before heading out.

If you head out through SPB, then I certainly wouldn't let this put you off. Plenty of boats still head out through there. There is a decent channel, you just need to be mindful that it's a sharp hook around and reasonably close to the western rock wall, as shown in the survey. That and following the channel puts you side-on to any waves.

They are all bar crossings and saturday morning had a run out tide and big swell running so there was always goung to be breakers on all bars that morning

It's not the bar that's the problem, it's being surrounded by all the south siders.

Looks like the dredge is nearby, so hopefully not too long before its channeled out again

I wonder if in the long run, a substantial extention of the wall on the headland side may help remedy the problem rather than ongoing dredging!!

I heard over the radio that the dredge had started working this week.

never thought it was that bad havnt been there in ten or so years when i was there it was just like the seaway remeber heading straight out no worries,bit of sand there now

Sure is looking good mate. Gotta chat to the Mrs first. She's on my back about whale watching, so I might head out through the Seaway. Moon phase is good.
