Fishing Successes Of 2017! Show Off Your Catches!

Well it is that time...

Time to farewell 2017 and usher in a new year. Traditionally we always kick this thread off. A little bit a fun to show some of our best catches of 2017.

Now these don't need to be the biggest etc... just some thing about them that made them significant. How they were caught, where they were caught etc.

I will rattle through my pictures and make a post myself soon!

Feel free to include goals for 2018!

For all the lurkers out there!!! Feel free to join in. Easy way to get involved :)

Ok so the fishing has been slow for me with mostly a bit of bread and butter stuff due to juggling baby and then babies! Not complaining.

However did manage a trip to Hervey Bay with @Boydy and managed a few of these...20171231_081815.jpg

This trip was far my first HB trip but it was made more magical by camping the night in pristine terrain. This will become something more regular when time frees up a bit.

20171231_081925.jpg

Aside from that the highlights have been getting out with Alastair. He has proven to love being outside in general which is something I hope to foster in the years that come so that "looking after the kids for the weekend" can at least translate to "camping trip with dad".

Goals: learn Casurina a bit better.

Fish more!

For me it was the new boat and the places it took me. Sharing new destinations with new people. Stand outs were1770, Airlie Beach trips with many AFO’s.

Its been a great fishing year for me thanks to all you crazy legends here on AFO.

I said goodbye to my little fishing mate Jackflash this year. He had basically not left my side for 14 years or so and my side still misses him. This was his last fishing trip. Blind, deaf and in pain.

20170729_092248.thumb.jpg.c372f7776b66c843c2850dde717c3a45.jpg

I caught plenty of fish with many many firsts and PB's. Standouts included 1770 with Demark,

20170906_152749.thumb.jpg.39294633befb3ce84e66150a8fd92137.jpg20170907_110627.thumb.jpg.787d73a3ac1cdfa6c1faab1a6a1e0f10.jpg

quite a few local trips with Tugger including Gold Coast

and NPD with Ray.

Fishing Goals - Really try and understand the new boat and get it set up really well with live bait tank and rod locker.

Learn as much as I can about Spotty Mackerel and how to catch them.

Fish every week.

Work out how to catch a stack of diver whiting for not much money. We caught only 4 the other day but I have learnt how to butterfly them and even the little ones go a long way.

Catch a bay long tail for Sashimi.

Do a Harvey bay trip and get Toooooona, mackerel and Golden Ts

Keep learning and have a ball at the GC social later this month.

Catch a local Mangrove Jack

See a black marlin.... I don't dare to dream to catch one.... yet :)

Plenty of highlights, firsts and PB's this year.IMG_1455.thumb.jpg.2e42ee2e1a6bf0640187ddbcaa193778.jpg

Started with many cod and a carp in the Murrumbidgee for firsts.

Then my first Kingfish off Montague Island.

Then a charter out of Coffin Bay. Kingfish and first Samson And Tuna.5a4b341e00f26_IMG_1270(1).thumb.jpg.aec697162d029678654b3720121fb875.jpg

A few trips with @Luvit resulting in my first AJ, another Kingfish to make it 3 states caught, PB Snapper and this horse of a Tuskie.

IMG_6627.thumb.jpg.e87ebfdf65138068ce9b31724c08214e.jpg

The highlight was the AFO trip to 1770. Learnt a sh!tload from the likes of @aussie123, @tugger and @demarc and met the lovely @DropBear.

Wayne and I fished each day until exhausted. Caught my first RTE, Hussar... and after getting sharked a few times on the first 2 nighter Coral Trout on the second trip.

This was at the top of the target list.....IMG_2110.thumb.jpg.6e8d7c1a51a7cb4f06665a467548c895.jpg

Not sure how he managed to get around minus a tail for so long......

Also did Hervey Bay for the first time and was amazed at being in the middle of a Spottie frenzy for the first time.

Big thanks to @Luvit and AFO for an epic 2017.

Looking forward to more firsts, highlights and PB"s this year !

Edit-

Forgot to mention the Freshwater !

First Bass  on surface and first Saratoga on the same lure- the Jitterbug.

You have caught some awesome fish last year Luke.

That AJ looks like a Sampson Fish. The pic does not make it easy for a proper ID but I think it's a Sambo. Bigger yes !

Thanks Lance.

The picture is of the Sambo out of Coffin Bay, I caught his cousin with Wayne at Barwon Banks.

Hope you're well mate and have a great 2018.

Hey guy's not sure if it counts but managed to talk the wife into doing a fishing charter, while on our honeymoon in airlie beach. By far the biggest fish I've caught excluding sharks.

Goals for 2018 are learning as much as I can about moreton bay fishing and to start venturing off shore. To explore new fishing grounds

Same to you mate,  I'm always having a read of in the forums and learning as much as possible :)

Keen to offer decky spots on my boat and also take up any opportunity's  to be a decky. Esspecially if someone is comfortable tackling the south passage bar and teaching me a thing or two :)
