Gday guys, just after some info on where to find some trevally around the south east, sunny coast down to the Gold Coast, using lures. Tips on places and tactics would be great. Cheers

Fast lures.

When trevs are feeding they are often competing with mates so a fast plastic or topwater lure can lead them into a blind reaction strike.

It is important to note that not all trevs feed and act similar.

GT's and the myriad of similar profile trevs (brassies, blue fin etc) are fast furious predators. Chrome and fast worked plastics and of course poppers.

Goldens can be but also suck a lot of the bottom and thus mircro jigs and plastics bounced off the bottom does the trick.

Big eyes get caught all the time but there is a reason they have a "big eye". They are low light hunters so night time, early morning or deeper water is the go.

Trevally are predators... So think where the bait is. They also love current... As they say "no run no fun". I think this is why they are common around bridges etc on the Goldy and Sunny coasts as many canal bridges mark a narrowing of water and thus a speed up in current around pilons. Bait also cannot compete as well with current as strong trevs which is why the trevs are there taking advantage.

This is only basic stuff but hope it helps a little and maybe generates more discussion.

Strangely we have done quite well around boat harbours. You are not aloud to fish in Manly boat harbour, so it wouldn't be this harbour that I have done well in and I certainly wouldn't suggest that you fished in Manly harbour... but one like that :)

Best for us has been small soft plastics worked erratically and quickly but with lots of pauses. Late afternoons have been fruitful with some trips getting a fish per cast for nearly an hour.

Good luck and above all get out there and give it a go. but more importantly if you catch something... or even if you don't... please put up some pics and a bit of a report for us to read? :)
