Mullet are currently thought to be one of the most sustainable fish in Aust. It is confronting to see how many get pulled in on the beach.

I like to eat mullet and I love to use it for bait for crabs and flesh baits.

With our fast growing population, lets hope the sustainability of the catch rate remains - including maintaining their habitat to sustain their numbers.

And I agree, the winter run sea mullet are friggen delicious!  5-10 bucks a kilo for fillets in Winter when they are running = bargain.

Sure is. I should stockpile some in my freezer next time I see it. Should be soon.

Anyone done any smoking of mullet.

Throught I  might try some, or any other that

smokes up alright.

Do you know what wood he used to smoke them.

Were there fresh caught or shop bought.

I was going to get shop ones.

Will find out about the wood for you Gary. He buys 15kg boxes of frozen barrels I think.

Yep they are top for smoking. Love them.

My old smoker fell apart a few years ago. I think I just worked out a project

Anyone know of a you tube video or similar for making your own hot smoker?

Yeah Robbie, Google '' Smoking Meat Forum'' Heaps of smoker builds on there, just do normal search

for smoker builds you'll find all you need. Gas/charcoal/wood/electric.
