victoria Fish Id

Just need help identifying a fish.

Hard with no photo, didn’t have my phone on me but they had sharp teeth, very loose big scales, very bad smell. Silver and brown with a yellow tail and impressively large eye. Caught south east vic coast.

Similar size to a large KGW, and very eager to smash the metals.

I’m guessing they were pike they can be a royal pain at times but keep them for bait

Yeah mate bang on, thanks. The name Pike had just completely left my mind.  

Any specific targets when using for bait?

Mulloway, snapper, mackerel... anything big and predatory will have a smash at them. Prime bait for mulloway.

Hey mate,

I like to eat them but they make one of the best live baits swimming. 

Cod can not resist them and kingfish fight over them. 

They make great flesh baits too for any smaller species.
