    Pleased To Meet You (again)

Hello! My name is Rod - known as Rocket Some of the older AFO/BFO members will probably remember me from about 10 years ago when I was quite active on BFO. Since then my life has seen many changes. Most notably my wife and I now have 2 daughters (8+6) whom I am encouraging to get into fishing (with limited success). I also have 3 kayaks, loads of grey hair and 1 YouTube channel. I write the odd fishing article for online mags and print, and enjoy making vids of my fishing adventures. An old friend recently sent me a message on AFO to catch up. I enjoyed browsing the reports while I was here so I thought it would be a good idea to re-introduce myself instead of lurking in the background. I hope I have some nice pics or a report to post some time soon Rocket

Seems your runs are few and far between so I would suggest better presented bait to attract more customers. I suggest live mullet hooked in the lip on a circle hook on as long a leader as you can still cast - like a metre at least so the mullet swims around a lot. Also just use 30lb flourocarbon for leader instead of wire - you will get far more bites and not that many bite offs with the circle hooks as they generally hook in the corner of the mouth. Without the wire you are also opening up options for other fish species that would normally never touch a bait on wire trace; anybody would rather get a jew or big flattie than a shark. This is coming from the far north where sharks are a plague and vermin rather than a targeted species; I rarely get bitten off on this type of rig by the smaller ones, just the really big ones that would spool me anyway.

I only wish I had seen it earlier Robbie as that strip is vital for the transom integrity.

    Life Jackets

Thanks for all the tips and advice. As my jackets are brand new I have decided to self service again on this occasion and look into having them checked by professionals in the winter. one of my jackets went off in the boat so a new mechanism was called for. FYI if you are looking for any cylinders or auto triggers I found the below to be the cheapest. www.decathlon.com.au they are a massive sports store next to IKEA at Tempe/Sydenham, NSW

That cap is the biggest cause of transom failures so you need to find a solution to permanently waterproof that top edge or you will end up with rot. You need to seal under those plastic ends to as water will get under them and in between your transom skins. When you remove the cap have a dig around the timber with a screw driver and see if there is any soft spots.

Hey Waz They did a sample dry blast and a sample wet blast. The wet blast was a better result. They have done a great job considering it was on a trailer and had to work on it sitting down. Here are some photos. l asked them to stay away from any edges and l would do them by hand. The guy made one mistake where he thought some sikaflex was anti foul and left it on there too long and blasted through the gel coat. About the size of a thumb print on the transom. Considering the Swiss cheese l made of it trying to get my transducer position right. I will repairr both at the same time. Soda blasting claims to not damage fibreglass. I found it leaves a rough finish but on the test section l could use some 1200 wet and dry and it smoothed it out. I expected to have to hand sand the bottom to get it smooth. It will be a lot easier now 95% of the antifoul is gone.

UPDATE; I tried Bli Bli quite a few times before and over the Christmas period with no luck, using all the tips from the thread. Yesterday a friend and I decided to drive to pine river as I’ve heard it has a reputation for small bull sharks, and we weren’t disappointed. We only caught one small shark but it gave a great run on our light gear. Location; Deep water bend - Pine river Bait; Fresh water eel Had great fun and we’ll surely be back soon, perhaps a bit higher in the system. Thanks for all the advice guys!! (photo attached)

It is tempting to talk up the gear that you have bought. If I was rich and famous Id just get one for kicks.... Might not happy any time soon... I will just have to be content with handsome.
