I bought one of the last Len Butterworth blanks off Rext Hunt when he ran the Complete Angler in Flinders St I think back in the 80's. It's a beast of a rod, 8176 blank. Need to bring it back to life someday. I also have a few other Snyders of course. The glass blanks are much better for setting the hook in my opinion, especially for Tailor, either spinning or baiting. Sorry Andrew,I'm keeping them of course

Sharks on Tuna are pretty common these days along Bribie...and elsewhere. Trick is to fight them hard and get them in early. Easy saying that of course

Hey mate Sorry for the tardy reply, been fly fishing for trout in the high plains of Vic Basiclly anywhere you can cast a soft plastic you can cast a fly. I fish for Bass in North pine and Kerwongbah form the edges or form a yak Haven't bothered with fishing from the surf much, waves are a pain for fly line Sand flats around Bridie Passage are great for whiting and flathead. Ask your mechanic what's the next bit that will need replacing after the other upgrades and decide from there. Fords should go for about 300K if serviced well

Go to a club meeting first and see what type of idiot fly fishes and get some help in casting and advice on gear if you are interested. PM for details of clubs around the area. Hi Terry I'm just very cautious and the lack of freeboard is a factor. Also I've had some green come over the bow on occassions. I know it's self draining and it was probably driver error, but it freaked me enough to choose my weather windows wisely. Of course YMMV Cheers Norm

PEople might bag them but a StabiCraft is one very seaworthy boat. A 5.2 cente console would be the cheery. FYI. I have a Galeforce 5.5 glass boat and at a stretch would do LAdy Muscrave on a calm day

For trolling you'd only need a cheapy boat rod that has some serious down low guts. A Silstar crytsal tip or an ugly stick would be fine. As for a reel, any cheapy TLD's that still have good gears and drag would be fine. I have one that's years oldand I just treat thedrag washers with Erskine Reel grease from time to time. Alot can be said about the benfits of braid in casting soft plastic and getting down deep but for trolling keep it simple and spool up a million metres of 20-25 lb mono. Although why you'd troll for Tuna when you could cast a perfectly decent fly at them is totally beyond me FWIW Norm

When I was a young lad I spent a few months in Kakadu studying crabs The local Aboriginal ranger used to come out in the field with us to find us a feed of mudcrabs. For entree we had Mudwelks (Longbums they called them). The trick was not to gathe rthe ones nearer the high tide mark as these were "hairy"...read poisonous. Cooked straight on the coals and then broken open. Funnily enough the flesh was bright blue!!!!!!!

Hey Licespray Be careful of this new hobby of yours, you think Stellas are expensive The rivers and creeks around Toowoomba are teaming with Carp (or as we like to say Mud Marlin, Feshwater Bonefish and Cod if you know the right spots. As for a teacher I'd thoroughly recommend joining a club. A mate and I started the Brisbane Fly Fishing club around ten years ago and it's still going strong. They have regular outings and now with COVID under check a bit they are slowly getting back to normal with monthly club nights (lots of fly casting gurus to help you out).
