  1. bremer intitute of tafe tafe.i started my first course when i was 17 have done 6 coarses in total there run by a fella named steve.each coarse is a more advanced level.its only a few hundred bucks each course,(was a few years ago that i did this) the engines you learn on are your own,you take your motor in and fully strip it down in the advanced levels, there a class of no more than 6 people. if they still exsist its well worth doin.
  2. hey anhie ive never clawed or fished npd hopfully oneday soon and i can tick it off my list of dams to hit up. if its any thing like somerset dam you should get em in the slightly deeper water on the edges of the weed beds. tinned cattfood rockmelon all works good. i know of a bloke that uses nothing but crushed garlic gloves in the opera house traps and does alright. use opera house traps or at least a trap with a small enterance so turtles cant get in. also use the search catergorys.there have been heaps of awsome techniques how to do it posted on this site before mick
  3. thats awsome. you fellas got it real good up there aye
  4. aye .... thats cheap mate. compared to running motor/motors that are a few years old most large hp engines run about one llitre every 1.5 km at around 30 km phr which is pritty slow .the new merc verado is paying for its self already.pritty much doubling those figures another way of llooking at it is 1 whole snapper in the fish shop old and not the best looking what 30 bucks for that 1 fish whole? pffftt maybe more. 5 decant snaps orr 3 decantt mackies the trips payed for its self $$ per kilo with fresh fish and if conditions let us fill the box on reef pickers then its def well worth it the way i look at it iam havin fun makin a bargain:woohoo:
  5. llast five trips down the coast in the little tinnie 9.9 hp would not have even used 5 ltres how ever the nisssan uses about 20ltrs diesel hiway running tto get there. offshore running the fuel consumption varies ,but on average yeah a few hundred dollers.on average probably 150 litresor $200 in premium unleaded for the boat and that would get us well wide off moreton island and on some pritty awsome grounds to fish and back to a ramp in the brissy area with fuel to sparenormally do around 200 km of traveling on the water but.down the goldie less fuel is used as the grounds are alot closer. somtimes lucky to use 20litres in the boat how ever the tow vehicle does use more fuel traveling there from where i live then theres a deisel bill for the tow vehicle and that cost varies too depending on which ramp ya use comslie, fishos manly, goldie, mooloaba, noosa, town of 1770, gladstone so the fuel bill for the tow vehcle varies too between $30-$400 in diesel but ussually around 30 bucks using a ramp down the brissy way. i dont ever ask dekies to go halves or thirds or 4ths in the total fuel bill all i want is 20, 30 ,40 bucks or what eva ya wana chip in iam happy with and a thanks goes a long way too and ill take ya to some good grounds either off the goldie or moreton I work hard and play even harder do it while you still can mick
  6. not a bad idea robin i have thought about it for a bit now and decided that yes members on this site have the right to know . get it out in the open no more problem. i take no pleasure in doing this. :( a bad deckie to have on your boat is a bloke whos site name is katfish sorry bud but i gave ya opportunity to come good and oppologise but na you are the man i thought you were.
  7. good on ya for bumpin the thread eug. keep this thread rolling guys hopfully more will read it. I got burnt big time by my last afo deckie i took out. he got good fish too :woohoo: did a bit over 200 km of traveling working the northern offshore reefs off the cape and down to the northern 29's deckie never pitched in a cent didnt even buy ice or 2 packs of servo pillies for burley when i asked him to just got chips n a drink for himself at the servo. then cried broke at the end of the trip. 3 bags of ice and 2 packs of servo pillies for burley aint much to ask for aye. or is it? . considering i stay out there for 15 hrs to make sure we fish the tide twice in that time period so we can have a good time on the reef. only to have the deckie get real sea sick you cant help that even i get crook at times i know the felling so i did what any responsable skipper would do ( tell em to jump over board it equalises the fluid in the inner ear imedeitly no more sea sickness) no i didnt do that i headed in cuttiing the trip way short:( but any way. its not just a gamble for the deckie on who ya skipper is and what there capabilitys are at skippering its also a gamble for the skipper on what the deckies are like as an honest decant sort of a person. no body likes being taken advantage of its a crap feeling aye. I still look forward to spending time with future deckies from this site its fun and i enjoy taking people out for the experience cheers mick

  9. WHOA!! Thats a good size catty. :woohoo: The bay is full of em and ya catch em often in about 9 mtrs of water on the edge of the shipping chanel. certainly no where near the biggest in Qld have seen way bigger cattys caught in the bay.I too have had a crack at eating a blue catty few years back. fillet n skinned its flesh is buet and I would rate it higher than some reef fish.It does not smell and its a nice firm flesh and BBQ's exelent as mark already said its a mind over mater thing and ya just have to tell the boys on the camping trip to toughen up princess eat it or starve and eat it we did and loveed it too.
  10. Is the 8000 lighter than the 6000 because the spool has been machined more to accomodate for more line capacity? are tey the same size spool, will an 8000 spool fit a 6000 reel? Just curious thats all.
  11. try to cough up the money for an absorbed glass matt (agm) deep cycle 120amp hr batt. you out lay the money once and own this battery for 7-10 yrs with out a glitch though a float charger should be used on these batterys. If charging from your out boards alternation choose a deep cycle with cranking capabilities (cca) this allows the cells of the battery to absorb and store the charge a lot quicker and a float charge is not required.
