  1. Was thinking of trying weedless jigheads to try catch some bream over some submerged rocky area and perhaps for flatties to, this would be from a land based spot or perhaps from my kayak, any help appreciated, cheers John
  2. Thanks benno, I'll give it a miss at that, cheers mate.
  3. I'm thinking of heading to kalinga bank from jacobs well, in a hire boat, they are five hp I think, can anyone help and give me an idea how long it would take please, cheers John
  4. Yes ellicat, we have gone out in Jacobs Well in hire boat, they are only low speed, does us, we're not aiming for stradie, just some more fishy spots the land based might not have, we enjoy it.
  5. Thanks angry, but as my mate would help and it would be only every couple of months, I didn't think of all that.
  6. Hi I fish the estuarys of the gold coast, mainly salt Creek, coombabah creek, I like to mainly wade the flats in my kayak, but I've decided to get a little boat, so my mate can come with me, as I'm in Toowoomba, we only go every few months, would a 12ft car topper, with say a 5hp motor be OK, just something to put on my hilux Ute, go for a fish, nice and simple. The other thing with the kayak is that at 60,im starting to feel not as secure in it. All advice appreciated, I'm pretty green on this.
  7. G'day guys My mate caught this fish on the goldy, any ideas please. Ta john
  8. G'day all Some of my trebles on my lures have rust, should I change them? Cheers john
  9. Does it matter if you use short or long shank hooks for whiting, I'm going to use nippers for bait, I've got the short size 4,hooks, but thought maybe I could use the longer ones. Interested in experienced fish as views, cheers John. Ps just fishing the flats.
  10. Kat, I'll certainly be do a report, I'd never done whiting before till I took a disability client to the broadwater on a Brad smith fishing charter two weeks ago, we used straight though fluro carbon, 2lb and used yabbies as bait, it was brilliant and worked well, great in fact. So I thought if I ran mono all the way through 4lb,i can try top water lures as well straight to the mono. I'll just get on my kayak and then wade the flats. That's my plan, but there's so many set ups you can use, I'm trying to keep it simple. My usual fishing is after flatties with sp, which I run braid, fluro leader etc. So this is new, it was great fun I'd never got yabbies before either, so got a pump for that, just shows you can teach an old dog new tricks lol. Cheers guys
  11. Thanks again hamish, I managed to get some of the taniki trout clear online so I'll give it a go,thanks again, John
  12. Thanks guys, very informative. Yes I tried this fishing and loved it, mono sounds the go, plus I can use it to throw a top body lure, which I want to try, what's a good quality mono guys, cheers again john
  13. I'm trying to get into a whiting set up from my kayak, mostly walking the flats, using yabbies etc I've only really used sp, but not targeted whiting, I wanted to run fluro right through really light say 4lbs, but thought I'm probably better with say 6,lb braid with 4 lb leader as then when not targeting say whiting, that rod is still good for flatties etc. I've looked at YouTube Vids, I see youngy uses mono all the way through, just wondering if others have done this type of fishing there thoughts, the areas I'd fish would be yabbie banks like the gc broad water, cheers again
  14. Thanks breaming with bro, very comprehensive ta
  15. I've got other rods I'd fish from the yak, I only fish sp and hard bodies, but after a recent charter and learning about whiting, I've decided to add a rod I'll use to fish with bait, while wading and also use for trying top water lures I want to try like mmd or sugar pens.
  16. OK I'm looking at the atomic arrowz, I fish from my kayak, but like to wander the flats, so the rod would be used wading the flats.
  17. I'm looking at getting a rod to put yabbies on to catch Whiting, and also use perhaps as a topwater lure rod, mainly for the flats. The brand I like offers two I like one is 2-6kilo 6"6 long the other is 1-5kg 7 foot long, I would use 4-6 kilo line, I'm leaning to the 2-6 one as a good all rounder, does it really matter that much the extra length, I'm intrigued, cheers for any help guys.
  18. Thanks guys, I'll probally run the fluro though and a mono leader if using topwater lures, seems the go, cheers
  19. I fish with lures, so use braid. I want to set aside a rod with lite gear for my ten yr old, and was going to just run lite fluro 4lb,and put yabbies on for him, also I could use it to try topwater,, say put some mono leader on. Is fluro OK ran right through, or should I use mono, cheers guys
  20. I lashed out and got a stradic fl, 2500 for my kayak rod, I've always rinsed my reels, off after doing the gc estuaries, but the reel instructions, say no go, so I've been doing it wrong all these years, interested in others experiences cheers john
  21. Thanks guys, so all good it's only 6lb,samsteele very funny, gave me a laugh, and yes it would serve me right lol. With my history' of catching fish, highly unlikely to land anything to big, thanks guys cheers John
  22. I got a new stradic fl 2500,and got it spooled at bcf, they didn't put any backing on, does that really matter. Was just wondering, also what's a good surface rod recommended to match it with, cheers John.
  23. G'day all, I'm after some sunglasses for fishing, must be uv rated, tough etc any recommendations I know they'll cost. I mainly fish off my kayak, estuaries on the gold coast, cheers in advance, john
  24. Thanks any standout colours, weights, I just fish gc estuaries. Sorry yes I got some atomic lures, I'm referring to vibration lures, the metal ones, blades, cheers
