  1. Thanks mate!!! It's not my boat (brother in laws) but, I think the brand of boat is a SportsCraft or something but its very similar setup to a Quintrex Renegade side console... We had no out riggers or anything... just used the standard rod holders and had 3 skirted lures and 1 teaser out. Everyone was kinda of looking at us like "what the F are these guys doing out here?!?!"... hahaha... all the other boats out there were pretty much game boats and had out riggers and all that jazz set up... we went budget!!!
  2. Hey guys, Got the call from the brother in law to go chase marlin with him yesterday off the Gold Coast. Long story short, we trolled around just outside the 36s in about 80m of water for about 4 hours with not one hit. We couldn't find any bait either (not even at the FADs or usual bait grounds outside the seaway) and we saw only one other boat hook up and land one but they were live baiting. On our way back in, we decided to just keep trolling the skirted lures and glad we did because it saved us from a donut!!! Pretty much on our way back in, we say something chase then hit the lure closest to the boat but couldn't make out what it was because of the wash from the prop. Missed it first go, but luckily the fish wanted the lure bad and came back for a second swipe and hooked on this time!!! (THANK GOD). Line was peeling of the TLD20 at speed!!! We thought at first we were on to a small stipey with the way it was taking line and playing up on the surface (but didn't actually breach the water), but only after a good 5 minute fight, we saw that it was a decent wahoo!!! It's probably not the biggest wahoo caught but it was my first ever so super stoked!!! He was all lit up too in like an electric blue!!! Such an awesome looking fish!!! Kept it for a feed and also gave some to the extended family. Forgot to mention that, there were plenty of game fishing boats out yesterday also chasing marlin!!! and we were in a 4.5m tinny!!! hahaha Was a tough day out but still better then being at work!!! haha Cheers
  3. Well done mate!!! If your gulps are only lasting you like 2-3 fish, should give the Z-Man plastics a go!!! The one plastic will last you ALL DAY with a bit of super glue on the jig head!!! I've caught 5+ spotties on the one 5 inch jerk shad!!!
  4. So because I work in the city and all this G20 guff was happening, I had time off work and decided to go fishing. I stayed down the GC most of the week so didn't have to drive too far to my normal spots I like to hit up land based. I used my light outfit (2-4kg Shimano Raider SP rod and 2500FJ Stradic with 4 pound braid and 6 pound leader) all weekend to chase some flathead. So day 1, I hit the Chinderah stretch. Here's the fish I got!!! and all were released. Interesting that this flatty had a big scar up along the side of it!!! Maybe a big female had a go at him!!! Day 2, went to fish the Tweed again at a different spot to hide from the 20 knot winds!!!... First cast, I let the plastic sink and first lift, I was on and reel was screaming!!! After a good fight, I landed (beached) this 48cm tailor!!! All fish were caught also on THE SAME Z-Man lure (3 inch minnowz in Opening Night)!!! Gotta love Z-Man!!! Cheers
  5. Bass Amongst The Whitecaps

  7. Ciguatera fish poisoning Palm Beach Reef

Not sure who else mentioned this on AusFish, but my brother in-law fished Palmy last Saturday. He caught a 12kg spanish and 3 smaller spotty mackeral... He kept all the spotties for himself and his family to eat and gave away fillets of the large spanish to his parent and neighbours. They ALL now have ciguatera poisoning!!! Symptoms came on within 24 hours of eating the mackeral... You just never know because I've eaten fillets from a 20kg spanish and I had no symptoms!!! It's just bad luck!! Just found it on AusFish... It is my brother in-law who posted on the forum!!! His poor parents are ill as!!!

  10. Fishing a new location

Hi guys, I'm heading up to Caloundra for the first time this weekend and was "Google Mapping" to try find some spot I can fish (land based with plastics targeting Flathead). I reckon I'm going to try southern end of Golden Beach or even jump in the car and head a bit north of Caloundra and fish the land locked looking area of Currimundi (Currimundi Lake). Has anyone fished up that way and had any success or have any tips??? Cheers

  14. Chasing Spotties

The spotty went 63cm. It was the first Mackeral I've ever caught and was awesome fun on light gear!!! I was using my Daiwa Gen Black 2-6kg rod, 2500 Freams spooled with 8 pound braid and 14 pound leader with a 25gram metal on there!!! I'm hooked on chasing Mackeral now!!! can't wait to get back out there!!!
  15. Chasing Spotties

We caught 1 spotty and only a couple of school mackeral in about 4 hours of fishing!!! Nothing to write home about either!!! We we using 30gram Sure Catch Knight slugs and doing as you said Callum... Dropping them to the bottom and just winding as fast as we could and that was the best technique!!! Cheers for the advice!!! Conditions were tough!!!
