Would love to try and setup radar to pickup birds and some topwater action! Have read this can be just as good as scanning underwater

@Muzza P its a long shot but deep in the network settings > "data sources" menus you can configure what devices / transducers provide SOG, Depth, Temp, heading etc. Maybe check here that you have configured depth on the installed transducer and not something else.

Wow price of electronics is really getting up (especially if you go Garmin). The HDS 16 Live would look awesome on the dash . I'm happy with my dual screen setup with a HDS 12 Live (for targeting fish) and @GregOug hand me down HDS live for navigation. On the HDS 12 - 4 way split was just a bit too small (Chart, Down, Structure, Side) but on a HDS 16 i reckon this would definitely work.

Left over bait from last outing into a grinder and tuna oil, frozen in a 2L milk bottle ready as berley for next sesh.

Getting some serious boat envy with @Cobiaaddict and @GregOug upgrading their boats. Some seriously nice rigs. Might need to start a new post to gather ideas from AFO members on how to fund my next boat.... Anyone know anything about crypto , NFTs, ETFs, Shares, Debt recycling, Investing or just general financial planning for a new boat? I wonder if a boat is allowable as a lump sump payment from super?

I genuinely think last year was our chance gone begging. Premiership window is closing fast. Few things bringing us back to the pack: Reynolds not getting any younger - I would say we are just barely managing his age decline. Prime Reynolds is over which will mean Mann needs to step up. Flegler / Pakasia / Capewell is a huge loss in depth which we haven't replaced. (Fletcher Baker or not) The big one and most underated was Herbie. Genuine metre eater, yardage. Teams know and have figured our Bronx are 1 trick Reece show. Need likes of Cobbo / Staggs to be threats otherwise Broncos attack is too predictable (pass it to Reece). It might be effective week to week, but in the finals when all the plays have been exposed. Defence coordinators can commit to planning a counter. I think Bronx are being overhyped this year. They will make the 8 but I think the team they had on the park last year was better.

Love the new Boat! @GregOug you are living the dream and definitely have your priorities right. You must have been an accountant in a past life to name your boat liquid asset

I'm thinking you can't replicate / build full match fitness with only training. Plus Raiders in Canberra is a tough first match for the Tigers.

I think you are on the mark at looking at a 6m plate for your purposes (usually 2 up) and tame bar crossing, 15nm. I'd only going bigger again if you wanted to go wider to shelf. This is my rule of thumb $10k per meter of plate boat (decent secondhand) 5m = $50k 6m = $60k 7m = $70k So if you are considering the bigger boat it works out to be $10k for that extra 1m of room Remember its $60k purchase, but likely you will mod and make additions /electronics on top of the purchase price.

There is a knack to it. Once you have the flatty on the water surface you start the swing....you have to commit to getting it over the railing in one go. As soon as the water is not holding the fishes weight - Gravity is your enemy and that is when hooks get pulled. So its a swing from the water surface (almost sling shoting it) straight up and over. With a softer rod this isn't possible to sling shot over. You really are just scull dragging the fish out of the water.

$60k is definitely on the low end for a NEW platey. You would have to compromise on size (length) to fit into that budget and be on the water. I would go secondhand brand name platey in that price range. Questions: 1) What's the bar crossing like in your area? Is it relatively tame or sketchy? 2) How many people will be fishing onboard? 3) How far is the run to your offshore spots? What's your ideal cruising speed / motor hp combo?

The Australian Standard for Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) – AS 4758 was introduced into recreational boat legislation nationally on 1 July 2010. So hopefully this will give you an idea if you have some PFDs to replace.

Used to fish canal bridges on the goldie just at or around this height. The compromise we made (at the loss of "feel") was to go heavier rods and try to pendulum swing them over the bridge railings. You will definitely lose some this way but it beat carrying around a net/gaffe. It always made for some good banter if the mates, stuffed up the swing and hit the railing (and lost the fish) or vice versa, some over the top swings saw "flying" fish up and over onto the adjacent bridge road. hahahahaha

Must be an IT guy thing (I'm also IT Project delivery) and also had to get my boat kitted out with all the latest gadgets and electronics when i got my boat (DIY of course) When are you going to get Sonar on your boat and then open it up to auto pilot hahaha (not because you need it but because its a tech gadget Getting the sounders dialled in and settings to what you want is as you say time on the water. I always thought livescope was more for your fresh water fishing (all the US Bass guys run it) In salt water and deeper water does it come in handy. I've seen vision of livescope for the guys that go prawning. Now that's a sight seeing the prawns and cast net live.
