  9. So the idea was bandied around the fire at Winter Camp to chuck out a date and idea for a Summer Camp next year. Initial concept was to use the camp site next to the boat ramp at Urangun Hervey Bay. Proposed dates... 5th, 6th, 7th of February. Idea would be to get as many guys together, tow a bunch of boats up. Fish. BBQ. Beer. Pretty straight forward while at the same time somewhat fool proof Hervey Bay is a big place so no limit on potential. The evening share should be really insightful as well. Looks like I will tow Henry's boat up so that is two to start. Proposed location is the Camp site/ Caravan park shown on the below map. Although this is ages away would be good to get some idea of numbers early and maybe we can book out a section of the park... Hope to see you there Angus

  12. Please note that in the Mary Valley Family Fishing Classic website link for Boating & Fishing guide is dated 2012/2013 There have been changes in November 2014 and February 2015. For the latest update (Aug 2015) go to https://www.daf.qld.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/rules-regulations Mary Valley Family Fishing Classic />http://www.qt.com.au/news/record-entries-likely/2804620/ 13th Oct 2015 5:00 AM THE Lions clubs of Gympie and Mary Valley have joined forces again to stage the Family Fishing Classic at Borumba Dam next month. The clubs are pleased to again have the support of the Lake Borumba Fish Restocking Association for this year's event, to be held on November 7 and 8. The objective of the project is to increase overall community awareness that the Mary Valley region of the south-east is a place of wonderful natural beauty with a resilient community spirit that is definitely worth a visit. Mary Valley Family Fishing Classic committee chairman Glenn Williams said the event was expected to be bigger than last year with about 130 competitors from as far as Brisbane, Toowoomba, the Darling Down, Gladstone and the Sunshine Coast expected to register for the classic. There will be assorted prizes for juniors for each species and the redclaw competition. Meanwhile, adults will participate in a mystery length competition on a species as determined by the committee and announced at the competition. For the adults, the catch-and-release event will be based on the size, and overall winners will be awarded about noon on Sunday. Mr Williams said the fishing classic provided a family atmosphere and an opportunity to spend time outdoors while having fun and giving participants a chance to return home with a prize. Those participating will be having fun while also supporting a good cause as all funds will go towards both Lions clubs. There will be live entertainment from 6pm to 9.30pm on Saturday with popular Gympie singer Graeme Jensen performing at the Lions Camp in the Borumba Dam campgrounds. Bring a chair and settle in for a good evening with karaoke for those looking to belt out a tune or two Also available will be a delicious two-course meal on sale this year for $10. All competitors 18 and over will require a stocked impoundment fishing permit in order to participate. A permit can be obtained from the camp ground managers based at Borumba Dam in addition most fishing tackle outlets. For more information regarding registering and camping, visit the website www.gympie.qld.lions .org.au/projects Need to talk to a real person? Phone Glenn Mob 0427276933

  14. PICK up a rod, and lure dad into fishing this Father's Day. Father's Day Fishing Fest 2015, an initiative by Queensland Urban Utilities and Ipswich City Council, will be held at Cribb Park in North Ipswich next Sunday. The competition is a catch-photo-release event and anglers can fish from boats, kayaks or the riverbank. "With great prizes up for grabs, this will be a terrific day out for the whole family." Prizes include a 2.7m single-seater fishing kayak, BCF vouchers, rods and reels. The event kicks off at 7am, with awards being announced at 1pm. Full article: http://www.qt.com.au/news/lure-dad-into/2756489/ Full comp details: http://www.ipswich.qld.gov.au/about_ipswich/news_and_events/2015-fathers-day-fishing-fest
  15. Well by popular demand dates have been set and concept sorted. Winter Camp this year will be held on the 8 to the 9th of August. Feel free to book days either side. Camp Lake Fire Website: http://www.camplakefire.com.au/ Bookings will a bit different this year and each participant will be responsible for making their own bookings etc. I apologize for this in advance but I am extremely time poor this year juggling a variety of hats and this in the best if not only way I could make it happen. Steve and team at Camp Lake Fire are reserving the entire paddock to the right on the entrance driveway exclusively for us. This will give us the chance to spread out camping areas while retaining some sort of central social area, and have a bank to ourselves for boats. He will also be moving a couple of port a loos down the hill for us. The concept will be similar to usual. Fish all day Saturday with some token prizes for length based captures. I will work on some prizes before the date. Prizes: 1st: $100 Searing Tackle Pack 2nd: $100 Lure Pack 3rd: $50 Lure Pack. A reminder this will be self catered and on that note would everyone be keen on a Saturday Night Feast! Basic idea would be everyone contributes something to a raucously indulgent feast (picture feasting in the halls of Valhalla) to be basically shared. Essentially bring your specialty... If can bake it, brew it, BBQ it, smoke it etc... Bring it along for the worlds best share table. Collaborative efforts welcome Sunday do what you want and have a great weekend Let me know your thoughts. I will keep a list of attendees in this post but this will be fairly rough as I will not be taking bookings personally. Maybe just let me know when you have actually booked so we know the list is fairly accurate. Also when you book make sure you let them know you are with the AFO crew Cheers guys. 17. Hi Guys, Just to inform you all that for the third year now we will be organising a flathead social to be held on the gold coast broadwater. Sunday september 21st is the date. This is a social event to get people together who generally communicate via a computer or phone. We fish for flathead only and the longest flattie wins(photo only). This time of year there are plenty of quality flatties around and can be caught from offshore boats to yaks. $10 entry to fish and $5 for a raffle ticket, all the money gets divided on a percentage to the top 3 or 4 anglers. You will be issued with a number to display on your photo. Raffle tickets are $5 each and you can buy as many as you want, I beg and plead with fishing companies to donate just a small prize to the raffle table and the generousity is amazing, we have prizes from Spotters, Damiki, Reeltackle,Dougie Burts, Threadybuster. Everyone comes away with at least a prize. If you know someone that would donate to the raffle table, please pass this on. We will meet at the boat ramp out towards the spit, on Seaworld drive at 6am, we meet back at the ramp at 12.30pm, there we have a free sausage sizzle and a cold drink, whilst we do the prizes and raffle. This is a fun event, so there are no serious rules apart from treat the fish properly and due to the amount of money at stake make sure your photo of the fish on a brag mat is clear. Any questions just ask via post or pm, or I have a facebook page for the event. Many thanks and hopefully see you guys there. 20. Free Lowrance anyone? Hey all, Lowrance is running a competition at the moment where we can win some pretty cool gear. The competition is called the Insight Genesis Club Challenge. Basically Insight Genesis is a tool for lowrance and simrad sounders that you can use to create custom maps. You can set your sounder to record and save this data to a card, this then gets uploaded online and the maps are created. To win, whoever logs the most data and covers the most acres will win. Each month there is a prize (Lowrance HDS 7 Touch) for both the leading angler and the leading club. AFO has been signed on and we are ready to go. So those of you with compatible sounders (https://insightstore.navico.com/supported-products) should get on board and give it a crack. Easy way to win a decent prize. There is also an overall prize as the end of the year for leading club($10k worth of product) and leading angler (HDS 12). Prizes scored by the club will be used as prizes in any future AFO events. This is the link to sign on and get involved, you can also see the current scoreboard and clubs entered to get an idea of it all. https://fishingclubchallenge.lowrance.com Also don't be disheartened by seeing the scores, each person and club can only win once! With that in mind we have a real collective crack here! Will post more info onto this thread as it comes, but for now those of you that are keen on giving it a go to win the HDS 7, sign up and get started. Nothing to lose! Cheers

  23. For those of you whom are not ANSA members - Got this in the mail today. Sounds like a good excuse for a social! Every year ANSA holds it's annual tournament. The reality is it has been poorly promoted and attended over the years and this year we want to see that change. In fact we have made it a lot easier with major changes to simplify the rule. The species challenge is an event where the ANSA membership can help us promote fishing and all you have to do is what you love to do. We have a goal in mind, we want 500 Fishers across the state to join in this event. We want as many ANSA people as possible registered for the event, organising social events as well if you want and sending us photos on the day so we can show the world that fishing is a great sport and a great way to meet people. This year you MUST register because we need to track numbers and plan what sort of help we will need to have on hand during the day. There will be a phone manned during the weekend and updates posted as often as possible on facebook. For the first time ever NON ANSA Members can also fish in the tournament, as long as they pay the temporary membership fee, so if you have some fishing friends that aren't currently in ANSA, why not invite them along. So, even if you can only fish for half an hour, please - register, take some photos of yourself in action and even if you don't catch a fish send them to us so we can share what the ANSA members know better than anyone: Fishing is fun, and we want more people to join in. You can register for the event via this link: http://www.ansaqld.com.au/species-challenge/ Follow the event on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ANSASpeciesChallenge What’s the Species Challenge about? The species challenge is all about getting out for a fish even if it's only half an hour, having a great time and testing out your skills against a range of species. Who can participate? ANYONE! Open to any sportfisher, you don’t have to be an existing ANSA member. What do I do? Register, then catch as many different species as possible over the two days! One fish of each species can be entered. On the challenge weekend, submit your catches online, through email, or via toll-free phone number. Where possible, photos are required for verification. Results will be tallied and available online through the event.
  24. It’s on again, only bigger and better with a massive prize pool to be won thanks to the many generous sponsors in a huge two day event at the Ewen Maddock Dam Camp & Recreation Centre for the 2014 Ewen Maddock Fish Stockers Challenge which will be held on the 15th & 16th of March 2014. This event, by popular demand is a catch and release competition for all keen kayaking anglers who wish to participate in a social environment with like-minded anglers. An entry fee of $65 will allow you to compete in this commended event with a BBQ/Spit meal provided for all competitors while socialising with fellow competitors and being entertained by a DJ during the evening on Saturday night, all whilst around a huge communal camp fire. Ewen Maddock Fish Management Inc. encourages all competitors to organise their own accommodation for that Saturday night and or the Friday night prior to the event if they so wish to, via the Ewen Maddock Dam Camp & Recreation Centre’s website http://www.ewenmaddockdamcamp.com.au/ where camping, cabin and dormitory style accommodation is available. Information on their website will provide you with contact details and accommodation rates. Due to the events popularity, an increase of competitors has been re-evaluated to allow 65 kayaking anglers to compete in the event, kicking off with a pre-fish on Saturday morning. The first session will start at 11:00am after a briefing of the event and finishes at 5:30pm. Following a social evening on Saturday night, the Sunday morning session, after another short briefing will start at 6:00am and will finish at 12 noon where a tally of the competitors results will be accumulated from both sessions which will determine the overall winners in each four categories of the event, between catches of Australian Bass, Golden Perch, Saratoga and Silver Perch. There will be collective random prize draws throughout the competition and as usual, a major prize draw for all entrants with the prize being a brand new fishing kayak to be won at the conclusion of the event. Please contact EMFMI’s Treasurer Wayne Eeasie via email at eassie@aapt.net.au to receive your registration pack. It is extremely important to read carefully the Ewen Maddock Fish Stockers Challenge Rules of the Event and SEQ Waters Rules prior to entering the event.
