      1. Keeping plecos in a pond

If there's anyone on here that has plecos i'm after some advice...I live in south bris and have a backyard pond approx 2.8m diameter with depth of 40-50cm most the time and I want to get a couple of plecos to clean up algae etc plus they look awesome..Now my pond isn't heated and wondering if they will survive in winter? Pond gets a fair bit of sun but I do have a lot of trees and worried might be too cold in winter..I read up they are pretty hardy with water quality etc but not sure if same with temperature..My local aquarium says they wont survive but another place rkns they shud be ok if water isn't over 50cm or so and he knows ppl that have had them in ponds for years with no problems...I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience good and bad with keeping them without heat? I am considering getting a heater if i go down this road..thanks
      2. Stingray ?

The other day my wife discovered what she, at first, thought was a stingray on the family room floor. It was pre-dawn at the time. Upon closer inspection she was aghast to realise it was the hind quarters (half) of a possum care of the dogs' night time activities. :pinch:
      3. My native + Peacock bass tank

Hi all, a discussion with people around the fire at winter camp motivated me to post my aquarium photos. Also have a cichlid breeding setup but these are a couple of my display tanks.

Mrs Dino sent these to me. I think that all dog owners can relate to most of them.

      10. For the horse lovers.

These horses were originally bred as "war horses" in the days of knights and armor. As armor got heavier, bigger horses were needed and the Friesian almost became extinct. They are back and are one of the prettiest horses in stature as well as gait. What gorgeous animals!! Just watching them becomes an emotional experience. Can you imagine what it would be like to ride one? Their manes and tails are the longest that I have seen and I noticed that when performing on grass, their hoofs do not kick up a divot (they land flat footed). Creatures such as these are what makes this world so special. These horses are native to the Netherlands . Have your audio on. />http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/Y5XJbSqwriM?rel=0 Cheers Ray />http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Y5XJbSqwriM

Hi Everyone Does anyone on this site have a murray or mary river cod in their aquarium? If you do, what size is your tank and does the fish stop growing at some stage? 17. Fish tanks~!!!

Hey all.. Well, been thinking bout it and I am starting to get really keen on the idea about a fish tank. I used to have a small one ( not sure where its gone, i think mum sold it), but don't really have a great idea about them. Was looking at getting something around 4ft to keep a Jack in. Just wondering if anyone has a tank or pump around that they don't need? ill be happy to pay cash for it Also what would i need? pumps etc.. Had a read in the forum search before and got a bit of good info Thanks, Runty
      18. Hi all, looking for some advice about african cichlids, and I know there are some very knowledgeable fish keepers on this site. My son went overseas in May and left me in charge of 2 tanks of cichlids. One tank has mature fish and the other is a smaller tank with the offspring in there. The fish in the big tank have stopped feeding in the last couple of days. I haven't changed the food (sera granugreen pellets), it is even from the same container. Tonight I tried different food (sera vegitable diet aliment compose diet) and they weren't interested in that either. None of them are eating or showing any interest in food. They all look fine and are active. Nothing else has been changed (water changed last a couple of weeks ago, no new fish). Any ideas? He loves those fish and I wouldn't know how to tell him that they all died.
      19. New to aquariums....please help.

G'day All, I have just bought a fish tank for Shell for her birthday. It is all set up, just waiting a week or so to introduce fish. We are keen on having bass or saratoga. Just wondering where I would buy these from in the Brissy area? The tank is 70lt. Any thoughts and advice would be much appreciated, as I am a total lid at this sort of thing. Thanks in advance, Ryan.
      20. I saw this and thought i would share it. A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble.. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it, he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?' 'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered. 'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked. 'Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up.' The man gestured, and the gate began to open. 'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveller asked. 'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.' The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.... 'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?' 'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in.' 'How about my friend here?' the traveller gestured to the dog. 'There should be a bowl by the pump,' said the man. They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveller filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. 'What do you call this place?' the traveller asked. 'This is Heaven,' he answered. 'Well, that's confusing,' the traveller said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.' 'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.' 'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?' 'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind"

      23. Aus Bass pet owners

I'm thinking of getting a couple bass tomorrow for some pets and I was just wondering what are the UPS and DOWNS of having these fish and are there any important pointers to keeping the fish healthy and alive, do you need to do water tests?
      24. Tick warning

Ticks are rampant again at the moment in the southeast. Over the last few weeks our cat has been coming home with about 3 or 4 bush ticks each day on him. I got home Monday after work and my dog's bark had changed and was unstable on his feet. Took him straight to the vets and pulled a paralysis tick off him. An overnight stay with tick antiserum and $700 later he came home. He is still recovering but doing well. We are very lucky we acted asap as they can be lethal. We are used to the animals getting bush ticks and we are pretty thorough at checking them all over and getting them off but the one that slipped through was a paralysis tick which are very nasty.
      25. Mangrove Jacks finally avaliable!

hi guys, we have finally after a 12 month drought secured some LEGAL juvenile Mangrove Jacks. These are sourced through one of Australias biggest aquarium fish suppliers- Aquarium industries. This ensures the specimens are either aquacultured or collected from a private and legal source (the ramifications far exceed the profit when it comes to illegally collecting aquarium fish). We currently have 2 left at 5cm for $195 and 4 left at 9cm for $250 expensive i know, but these are in massive demand all throughout australia and again legal mangrove jacks will always be top dollar in comparison to shop who purchase them illegally. Please contact Atlas Aquarium on (07) 3256 3774 or email at atlasaquarium@live.com.au we are also on facebook for an immediate response (best method as these will sell fast). 270 Rode Road Wavell Heights Happy Fishing Ben :-)
