Beware at Comslie boat ramp

I'm somewhat limited to ramps with pontoons :):(

So Comslie was an option open to me.

never had any probs there before

BUT on a recent outing it happened to be a lowish tide upon return , Iknow there are signs warning of a drop off at the end of the ramp (sorry for yelling)

BUT THEY DON'T SAY HOW FAR DOWN THE RAMP IT IS

well I never noticed a mark or sign showing it

This is what happens to new trailers after dropping off the edge and this is after emergeny panel beating to get the guard off the tyre

I'm thinking of putting a claim in to the council for damages Has anyone tried this before ?

Mate I'm feeling your pain that really blows, nothing worse than getting the mistress a bit dinged up :(

Gaz I'd be looking for the local member for Comslie and knocking on his door. Good luck with the claim though. You may succeed in getting a few end markers installed or perhaps better signage if there isn't any already (never launched there!)

Thanks for the heads up though.

Never seen that before but then again I'm always looking at the trailer not the handrail unless some Honey is up there but then I stop and watch the scenery :P

IMO needs to have a marker on the pontoon side and a brightly colored pole on the otherside

c'mon, they don't need markers, they should fix the bloody ramp, with the rego increases we the boaties should start bloody screaming about the poor state of the facilities, all the ramps in brisbane, yes i mean all of them are stuffed, if only they spent half as much money on the ramps and facilities as they did with the green zoning bulsiht, i have rang up and complained about that ramp for ages reguarding the lights and their reply was { thats what insurance is for } well kcuf me, go em try and get as much as you can out of em, sue, sue, sue, write a letter as well as going into the office, but let me know as i will let them know how i feel about the place

That ramp was r/s at last years classic. Remember some guys with tandem trailer and big ski boat in all sorts of trouble with all wheels over edge of ramp. Was quite a sight two fat guys waste deep in water trying to lift trailer with missus smoking up the wheels of a comadore. Must say it amused me would have been different if it was a fisho. Probably would have lent a hand.

There are a lot of ramps with marked drop offs if you know where to look. The one at wello used to have a post years ago but people kept knocking it over so it was removed.

Cheers

Ouch that sux Gaz.

In future look at the hand rail on the pontoon. Theres a black line that some kind soul has spray painted, to mark the end of the ramp. ;)

Jayson

that kind soul is archie from the boat licence place

Funny you should say that, I was thinking it would be him. They should call it Archie's ramp. he is always hanging around there helping out.

Could have been worse Gaz. You could have stepped into the hole and got wet up to your ribs like I did the first time I found it :pinch: :pinch:

All those guys that say Colmslie is flat, well now you know where the drop off is LOL:P

On the bright side Gaz - at least the trailer now has it's first 'mark', so you don't have to worry as much about not marking it.

The drop off at the end of ramps is caused in part by drive on boat loading when the prop thrust stirs up the sand or mud allowing the water to carry it away.Dam shame about the damage to the trailer though:(
i have seen many come unstuck because of this, with a low tide sometimes there is only a foot of ramp in the water, NOT a foot deep, and for those that don't know, also on low tide take your boats around the front with the motor trimmed up,and go from the outer reach, as there is a big rock along the side of the pontoon, you will find it if you try and drive around to the side of the pontoon, maybe not first or second time, but it will get ya
