fishing in the rain?

I like fishing feshwater in the rain.

I get soaked quite a bit chasing bass. Two weeks ago I was standing out at North Pine Dam in waist deep water when the skies opened up. Cool I thought, this will be a good session. The sky was a bit grey and I thought to myself, I hope there's no lightning. A second later a bolt of lightning flew sideways across the sky not too far away.I put my Shimano graphite lightning conductor close to the ground and got the hell out of there.

But yeh...rain usually is goods news for my style of fishing.

have had huge success in mermaid waters canals during rain before a big run of fresh begins.. bream and trevally aplenty on bait.. also very memorable float fishing for mullet sessions in the robina/clear island water lakes which was always a fall back option for boring rainy days when the waves sucked..

I've found the only difference as result of the rain (beside comfort levels)is where you fish .. .. a bit of fresh in the water flushes out the creeks (& bait with it) and as such there is often a bit more action in the mouths of the estuaries (along the dirty water line) that a closer to the sea where the predatory species may wish to exploit.

i have had one of the best breaming sessions in the worst of weather, about 2 or 3 years ago when it had that cyclonic wind and rain i fished caloundra with my dad in the pumistone passagewhere at the tiem there was a 2m swell rolling in through the passsage:P. Every cast resulted in a bream from 25-30 managed about 30 in the hour and a half session. give it a try sometimes it pays off.

caught my Jew in the rain ;)

hmm under a bridge too, I havn't heard the bridge theory but I have heard they don't mind a little bit of fresh, maybe there was a bit of both at work.

I think it depends on the rain, I have had great luck immediately after a few moderate showers or on the early stages of the rain if it goes for a long time, but it may get a little quiet if there is a real lot of fresh going in.
