my canada wheels...

Ok, so this might be cheating a bit since i am now in Australia, but when i lived in Vancouver, this was my trusty fishing/hunting/camping vehicle. The little camper you see in some pics was hand built and it's walls, ceiling and floor were all about 3 inches thick, full of insulation, this made camping in -20C weather pleasant. :)

I'm new to this forum, so i'm unsure how to post proper size pics but these will give you an idea. all in all a good truck. had it for about 5 years and the only thing other than regular maintenece i had to do was change the spark plug wires after some idiot at a car wash place decided it was a good idea to 'hand wash' the engine bay with a pressure washer.

anyhow some specs....

5.4L v8 with:

K&N FIPK Kit

Basani headers

Flowmaster 40 series catback exhaust

quad tip platinum plugs

3.73 gears with posi

I was running 33x11.5x16 BFG tires (roughly 285/75/16)

so on the highway going 100km/h i only turned 1800rpm which made the fuel economy decent 13L/100km (this thing weighed almost 3 tons with the camper so not bad)

I think that's about it. I will post pics of my regular runabout suv once i find the pics, but it's just a range rover so i dont want to get called a yuppie... hence the tough truck pics first.. ha ha

3rd post already screwed up... could a mod move this to the 'show us your wheels' page.. thanks...

Yeah i saw what the f250 diesels go for here... extortion and criminal price gouging come to mind.

I could buy a 2003 f250 in lariat trim (all leather, all power, fully loaded) in BC, for oh about 15,000 to 18,000 so about $20k Aussie .... sick man, just sick.

Yeah my buddy got the new 6.7L cummins in his Ram... the 2500 model (3/4 ton) and it is stupid fast. huge industry in Canada for supping up pick ups.

Any big three (GM, Ford, Dodge) diesel made between 1998 and now can easily make 400HP at the wheels and still get decent economy with about a 3 to 5k dollar investment in chips, pulleys and injectors.....

Let me know what exactly you have truck wise and what you are planning to do...

There are a huge number of things that can go wrong.. depends on your read end (ring and pinion).. that might blow up, not cool... your transmission (if auto can blow up), your motor can overheat, too much pressure and blow up.. etc. etc.

Don't go for gimmicks, like a programmer that promises crazy increases... (bullydog comes to mind).

Go for Banks. or email these guys... they did a lot of trucks for a bunch of my friends and they are very knowledgeable.. not just retail, they design & CNC the parts they sell. check em out, they are in BC...

Do you guys have propane in Australia? I mean at gas stations not in a bbq tank (same thing though)... look up propane injection for turbo diesel... it's like running nitro in a gas pot.. but you can run it all the time and it makes a diesel more efficient, run cooler... and yeah it gives it a lot more power.. good fun...

Hell if you're a mechanic maybe you can recommend a good vehicle for me? I was leaning towards a toyota hilux or landcruiser, since we dont have those in canada... and i think the landcruisers are indistructible.. some guys have 'em in canada the older FJ45's which are left hand drive.. but they usually run the 350 (5.7) chevy V8... not so popular here i suppose?
