Biggest & Smallest Jack I have Seen

Hey all,

With my new job I have been going down to Sanctuary Cove at least once a week to check on boats, inspecting boats etc.

Over winter the only fish (although in massive abundance) were Bream and Mullet.

Well today was drool worthy to say the least. The schools of mullet and bream were still there, but mixed in were 100's of Trevs (little GT's) and lots of big Luderick. I also saw two large estuary cod just being stealth.

The highlight for me though as seeing no less than 7 Jacks all in a very small area. The smallest one was about 4cm and was awessome to see hunting in the shallow water. The biggest, well i nearly crapped myself when out from under the pier (without using fishermans license) a 60cm ish jack spead out and smashed into a school of herring leaving scales in its wake. It was deep red and the largest I have seen in the wild by far.

Pitty I had to work I could have watched my very own national geographic channel all day long.

Technically no. But if I get the chance to stay down for a weekend on one of the boats, as if a livie is not going over the side at night!!

I guess its not bad you cant fish in these places. They must make for fantastic breeding grounds and effectively stock the rest of the Coomera. After driving up and down the coomera river a few times lately im extremely keen to fish some of its rocks walls and mangrove channels etc. Its looks great and I never see many reports on here for it at all considering its location.

Cheers.

I've seen a few Jacks in the wild as well, but I've never seen them actually hit baitfish. Would've been awesome to see:cheer:

I've also seen a school of small Jack's like you did, funny how the smaller ones like to hang out with each other. Biggest free swimming one I've seen was about 50cm

crap me - got nothing else to say but holy smackos the jacks are every where. Good post mate

There is a few around the Coomera area lately! Any rock wall is worth a shot at night. I love this area cause there is so many options for landbase fishos ;)

Cheers, Mick.

Yeah i did notice when i was throwing heavier weight on my cardiff i found distance and less backlash. So i completely understand the concept you guys are putting forward.

I am very persistent when it comes to things like this and look forward to using my fishing rod like a wand to cast spells far and wide and pull unsuspecting fish in like the pied piper of the river.

Anyhow thanks Jeff & mangled for helping me fix my reel and the mystical "quick release".

I was at boardwalk tavern at hope island on saturday and basically saw the same thing there. Bream f*&king eveywhere and spotted the one jack!!! All decent size 30cm + :woohoo:

No fishing allowed though :( Oh well, few cold beers and concetrating on the scenary in the pub and drooling over the boats parked in the marina took my mind off the fishing B)
