Prawns (please dont use capitals)

..::Penn::..

Recommended Posts

Try not to use capitals in your thread name. Makes it look like you're shouting. Also you would probably get more responses in the "fishing" category or similar. I would move it but I don't moderate this forum section

Can't say much on the actual question as I don't really go for prawns or live in that area:(

why ask for info around indroopilly then say you caught 80 prawns at indooroopilly, and that you always catch prawns there?? lol

Doesn't add up, excuse the skepticism if your telling the truth I just hope this isn't one of the fabeled indro bridge threads like some guy saying he landed snapper at indro bridge and Cobia.

Like I say if your telling the truth then my apologies.

lol. it's really amusing to see soo many people taking the piss on this thread. now i understand why soo many good ppl have moved on. the bloke was just asking for advice on where to get prawns and after he announced that he got 80 prawns he copped a truckload of flak for it. what a load of rubbish.

is 80 prawns hard to believe? lol.. i think whoever thinks otherwise should trawl the previous forum reports abit and look up the castnet reports. then i highly doubt that you would believe that some of us used to get plenty of 20cm prawns in abundance just upriver of the city lol. how about filling up buckets with prawns? hehe. too good to be true? lol. then you obviously havent been doing the right thing. i'm no prawn expert, there're other members of this forum who regularly get kilos and kilos of huge prawns in the castnet.

and about the indooroo bridge.. since it seems that noone has anything useful to contribute to this forum anymore, i might as well do my part.

go to the floating platform under the indooroo bridge at nightfall or after dark, with the tide half full or close to full, incoming or outgoing doesnt matter. castnet on either side of it along the first half of it. do chuck your net further up in the opposite direction of the tidal flow to compensate for the current, and close up your net before it reaches the platform. i stick my hand in the water to hold the net away from the platform as i pull it in to avoid scraping it.

heaps of prawns there. i've found that prawns there dont go much more than 15cm, but they're there in abundance. do stay away from the first metre of the platform when you're casting, especially the left side as there's a load of mangrove roots there that will catch your net.

and no, i dont want an economics lesson on the opportunity cost of catching prawns under the indooroo bridge or some other whatnot.

Some good points raised. I would just like to remind people (as per our site rules) to:

from what a few people have told me that after the big rains head to the mouths or lower regions as they flush out when there's been a decent fall. as for the dicussion on prawns being caught in the same spot have seen it done and has worked for me, the numbers vary though.

jeez.. i haven;t looked at this thread since it started but it looks like it went downhill :(

It is possible to have a "prawn spot" in the Bris river. I have a spot in Yeronga that ALWAYS produces. I'm only ever there for half an hour cast netting for prawns but that is enough to supply me a nights worth of fishing.

And as Kiara has said (mind you good to see you posting here again mate :) ) there are large prawns around the river. I have seen and done it with Kiara almost a year ago.

Look through some old threads guys.

I think the point has been missed here.

Its not the fact that people were scepticle of the catch.

However it is the point that they were sceptical of the catch after advice had been given and not reciprocated.

Why come onto the forum ask for help and then respond to the same question asked by you with "At Indooropilly somewhere"

Now this is definatelly not what AFO is about.

I cant understand why people would take from the site but refuse to guve anything back.
