Trailer Company Recommendations?

batman

Recommended Posts

Hi All

I am researching trailer companies at the moment and have received a few quotes from a couple of companies. I am amazed at the difference in price as I have sent over emails to these companie of the exact spec that I am after plus a photo to give them an idea of what I am wanting.

The Trailer spec that I am looking at:

7x4 Box trailer - Galvanized (I was recomended to go galv due to sea water, rust etc) 450mm high sides, the standard is 300mm.

A hard top on gas struts, they open side ways, the hard top will have a tie down rail around the hard top.

Jockey wheel and spare wheel plus rego.

I have attached a pic of a trailer I saw on ebay that gave me the idea. Basically I will add ladder racks to the trailer to pop the yaks/surfboards on, all the camping equipment goes on and all I have to do is attach it to the ute and off I go....

The cheapest quote I have received is from Hans Trailers in Ipswich, anyone got one of their trailers? Whats the quality like?

Some help and advice would be great!

Batty

Hi batty I had a 7' x 4' trailer built by Nathan trailers at Brendale, proper off road with shackled springs, 500mm sides ,extended draw bar, mesh too draw bar to carry muddy recovery gear, gusseted guards ,16x7 wheels ,not gal ,painted for 2k tow away was the best price at the time and nothing was any trouble

Cant help with recommendations but from observing a lot of fairly new trailers at local dump that are either rusted out or broken check for full chassis and wall thickness of chassis and draw bar. I see a lot of bent draw bars that are only 1.6 material where the manufacturer has tried to save weight and costs.

Some of them do not even have a chassis and rely on the strength of the floor and walls with just a short section of angle to support the spring hangers.

Check on how much weight you are going to carry you may have to provide brakes. If you do and are not going to dunk the trailer I recommend going a bit extra and installing electric.

Cheers

Hey mate, neat looking trailer idea there!

Can't really recommend anyone trailer wise, but on the Hans front, I've had quite a bit to do with there other side of operations "Beef-Boss" which is basically Hans' line of livestock handling equipment, made by the same mob at Ipswich. I've used their crushes, head bails, silo's etc. These products whilst not being the most "up to date" with the rest of the market, they are very competitively priced and very solidly built. They make a very solid product, with a neat finish, the only thing I can fault with their finishes is sometimes they can be a bit sparing on spraying the cold gal over the welds. But I would imagine if you told them your intended use of the trailer & specified that you want it rust proofed as best as possible, they'd accommodate your needs.

Good luck with it.

Cheers,

Matt

Jeez thanks chaps!

But here is my dilema

Hans Trailers: $2.2k

Just trailers: $4k

Trailers2000 - don't waste ya time!

Natahn Trailers - $4.5

I am scratching my head wondering how Hans can get a product out the door for nearly $2k cheaper?

Got me thinking about the quality? Or are the others just taking the piss?

Guess it's a Hans...is gooood!

Hi batman,

I live in Ippy,Hans has a good name out here, like mangler said they make cattle and rural equipment, sell steel, make good trailers to order, their stuff is as good if not better than others, they can make trailers at better prices, than most, because trailers are not their only sauce of income.

Their also big supporters of local charities.

cheers

Batman what's wrong?

I only just got home, and read your report. I have not touched anything with this thread

Edit: No moderator has touched your original post. The last person to edit it was yourself on the 11th. If you uploaded the image to AFO then some filenames may have got mixed up on the server side. :S Only thing I can think of

Admin Note: Sorry, we reuploaded images from a previous backup so im guessing that your image was labelled the same as that one that was uploaded and has overwritten it. Sorry we didnt take that into consideration when we uploaded the images from the backup. If you email the picture to webmaster@brisbaenfishing.com.au we will correct it.

Still in shock over the price, my trailer is pretty much the same specs as you listed, but no lid, no galvanising, cost me $800 about 4 years ago. (Galv dipping a trailer should only cost $3-350 bucks extra)

Well a few weeks ago metal prices were much higher

from what I've heard the price of metal per tonne has fallen out the arse

Could be a bit cheaper now?

if you do come across some irregularity in the forum (image broken, image not correct one etc) please let me know so i can fix it. Its very hard to see all these mistakes and so they wont get fixed unless we get notified.

thanks

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi All

Well I got my trailer from Hans Trailers and I have to say that I am very happy!!

The materials used especially the rails exceeded my expectations. The gas struts are heavy duty and even with two kayaks on top they stayed up no problem.

The missus and I popped all our camping stuff in the back and Milo went in the back for a change!

All in all...stoked!
