Day 1 7/11/08

Arrived at the blue dolphin at 4pm NSW time which is really 3pm here. Unpacked and went straight to the boat ramp we launched and straight away went to the trawlers where we got a few bream and a big bust off for me to a suspect jack. We then went to the flats where we got the first of many flathead to come and some more bream. We then went to the middle wall for a few more flathead. We then went to the Yamba Pub where we got a few more bream. Then last spot for the day was a sand dredge where we got a few better size bream and I got a 30cmish amberjack on 4lb.

Day 2 8/11/08

Our start time was 7am and we had leaving position 25 we went straight to palmers channel and went a few kms up where we got to the mouth of the lake. It was 1m deep and we got 4 bream by 8:30am with a 26cm, 26 1/2cm, 28cm and a 30cm bream in the bag (all fl ). We then went and fished some mangroves where we got the 5th bream at 26 ½ cm and another bust off to a suspect jack. After that we went to a rock wall to fish deep all we got there was a flathead and a few missed bites. So we moved to another rock wall this time a bit shallower. It was flathead city where we got about 15 flathead to every bream. This is also where I broke my favourite bream rod when the line twisted around the tip of the rod and I had a flathead on. Anyway we went and weighed in to get a bag of 2.22kg. The biggest bag was 2.84kg and we were positioned 13th.

Day 3 9/11/08

We went straight to palmers channel again the wind was blowing about 20kns straight into our faces and the water was very brown after the nights rain. We still got 4 fish here with a 25cm, 25cm, 25 1/2cm and a 34cm fl bream. So we then moved out to the mouth of palmers channel where we got more flathead. So we decided to make the run out to browns rocks to find very disappointed fisherman that had only got 1 or 2 bream so far. Anyway we dropped down and the guy next to us hooks up then Jay hooked up then I hooked up. Jay was the only person to get his fish in going 28cm I caught the eye off my fish and the other guy dropped his. We didn’t get another bite there so we moved to flathead city again to catch a few more flathead and some bream but nothing big. So we weighed in to get 2.04kg and get 11th place. Also just our luck prizes started at 10th place which was only an Engel picnic pack any way. We also had to wait an hour and 15 min on the side of the road just past the Iluka turn off as there was a big crash.

We would have got way over 100 flathead the whole weekend with the biggest about 65cm the one that broke my rod. Most fish were caught on 1/16 tt jigheads and 2†gulp shrimps colours peppered prawn and banana prawn, we also got a few fish on chubbies and switchblades (the 34cm fl came on a golden boy switchblade. Sorry no pics

This was also for both of us our 3rd time fishing for bream on the river.:)

had a few mates fish the teams grand final and they all said the same thing - flathead city! none of them did as well as you, but for most it was their first time on the clarence.

sounded like a tough weekend with plenty of wind, undersize bream and wall-to-wall flathead.

well done - bad luck about the rod :(
