Trolling for Jew Fish!????

I just read an article by Roderick Walmsley a pro fisho who apparently cracked a pattern of catching jew fish on the Troll!??

He says that one day he popped on a Predetek Deep Diver and a Halco Poltegeist and fast idled his tinnie along a rock wall somewhere in northern NSW(not sure where!?). The tide had turned and was running making plastics hard to fish.

All of a sudden the rod bent over and he had hooked a 6kg jew fish.

That got him thinking about trolling for Jew Fish more often. He also reckons that most of the jewies caught are when he is trolling against the tide. With the water being in the range of 15-30 feet.

Has anyone specifically targeted Jew fish on the troll?

I am off to Iluka and the Clarence is renowned for good Jew Fish...This got me thinking about the speed of the Hobie and trolling speed is about 4 knots so might be perfect idea.

Any advice would be great!

that doesnt surprise me at all.. my old fishing mags have stories of old diggers casting big gold bombers on their huge surf rods and alveys, slowly retrieving them off the rockwalls and beaches of nthrn nsw.. sometimes for hours on end and mostly at night. and catching huge jew to boot.. i'd assume the trolling element would be similar .. put in the time and clean up eventually !!

back in the days before outboards and lures

it was common to troll live mullet behind a row boat for jew

Hey jeff f

I remember those days, the home made bondwood boats.

The older brothers thought it was Xmas when the old man bought a second hand seagull outboard.

Times and technology have advanced so much, but the basics still get you catch.

cheers
