Main Beach whitings

Was going to head down to Clear Island Waters this morning, but made a last minute choice to head down to mainbeach instead. I was going to paddle out to the rock wall at the mouth but the current and wind were working together so I stayed in the relative calm of the bay.

Pulled up a whiting trolling a Chubby Deep, so anchored up and decided to fish there. Caught about 6 whiting all up, not much size to them, 20cm would have been the biggest. All went back in as I'm not sure how to tell the whiting apart so I was going by 23cm as a minimum.

All but the first were caught on plastics, They seemed to like heavy jigheads on the bottom, The lighter 1/16th jigheads were all but ignored.

Of course all my heavy jigheads had big hooks, so the whiting kept stealing the gulps and not hooking up. I ended up compromising by putting a small running sinker on a 1/24 jighead with a small hook.

This worked really well and accounted most of the fish.

As the morning wore on the fish went off the bite, so I threw some HBs on and trolled around, had one really good hookup, but he threw the hooks.

I wasn't surprised at the constant idiocy of the boat and jetski drivers. They'd fly past me barely metres from the kayak totally oblivious to the effect the wake had on me, one of the boats was going fast enough it was launching itself off the swell ( which was tiny! ).

Eventually got the sh*ts and headed back to the ramp, drove up to the seaway and had a few casts from the rock wall but the wind was picking up, and even 1/4 jigheads weren't travelling too far in the air.

Good work,

I was only talking to a fella yesterday about the moronic people out there who are too busy with the "Look at Me" mentality to give a stuff about the safety of others.

Just a fortnight ago I was up at Bribie and this Jetski kept on coming over to where a boat was :fishing: and creating whitewash and they thought it was funny.

In saying this though I'm sure that the majority are decent. They just don't capture our attention with stupid stunts.
