if budget is $400, have you had a look at places like AMART? Wont get a home gym for that much, but all you really need is a good solid bench, barbell, dumbells, weights and (if you want) an EZ Bar.

Not really anything you can't solidly work out without those.

im really after a second hand commercial unit that will last.

weights are the main killer at 4 bucks a kg

For the weights, check out your local tip shop. They may need a coat of paint or a clean up, but they are much, much cheaper than $4 dollars a kg.

if your out at drewvale and on illaweena st on the corner where the road gets covered with water after rain there is an old frame with weights laying beside the road or it was on friday free for the taking;)

Check out the weekend shopper and the trading post, always hero's who spend up big and never use it, almost as much gear out there as second hand "TV advertised womens exercise machines"
