Threadies...

Ey Lads,

With all the Treddy posts on here lately - I am frothing to take my first scalp.. Was wondering if you experienced Threddy fisherman could enlighten me with a little knowledge before I begin my quest?

Where do Threddies live? Like Flatty's hold up on drop off's & weed beds, bream under pontoons and structure, whiting on sand flats.. Jacks and Cod amidst heavy snags and rocky bottoms.. Are Threddies found anywhere in particular more often than not or do they just cruise around everywhere looking for food? Do you need a certain dept of water to catch them in? I know the Brissy River would have to be one of the best spots around but are they a bottom dweller or top feeder? I have heard stories of people catching them flicking unweighted gulp 3inch shrimp across the surface then others with a live 20cm whiting attached to a sinker on the bottom..

What are the proven winning methods - do you bait them or lure them? Are they a nutcase fighter or pretty sluggish? What kindof mainline and leader would you need to get a 70cm-1m variety in?

Appreciate the help!

gday , threadies live in the water  every discription for the other fish you will find threadies , deep shallow mid water , i use live prawns the most , as i have not landed one on lures yet , i say yet!!!! if you have a boat you can search for them using your sounder... if you like lures try mask vibs at any sort of structure at the mouth of the river eg any inactive dock or pylons , also sandy flats with drop offs to deep water....

time and persistance at the same location is requiered if you own a boat use it you locate bait schools on drop offs . i found shallow gradual sloping banks are great as that is where greasy prawns hang out in the high silt contents of the river banks. and to answer your question how do they fight its like hangin on to a lawn mower hitting a brick. best of luck.

yep.he'll even supply you with fresh bait too. just don't get the pontoon where he throws the net dirty. that pisses him off big time. and must admit, it does me too.
