Just after peoples opinions on the Jarvis Walker leccy motors, are they any good? In the bias cat. it has little 18lb thrust for $139, I'm after a elec. for the canoe, it will be used for the dams, would it be better to go the 30lb for a few extra dollars. Any experiences with them good and bad would be great to know, thanks.

Bommie, I have 2 Watersnakes, both 54lbs. I have had one for 2 years (since they were 1st released) and the other about 12 months. I have had no trouble with either.

The old one has a bit of damage from me leaving it down in the water and taking off at wot speed in the cruise craft, resulted in a slightly bent shaft and a loose rachet gear connection. I also over tightened the hight adjusting knob and this broke it.

Would I reconmend them or buy them again - Yes without hestitation.

Are they as good as mini kota - no I don't think so.

Are they good enough for the job - Yes, I believe they are.

I think the price is a good one and if I was buying one for a yak/canoe I would most likely grab that deal. $169 for 30lb. I paid $199 and $299 ages ago.

i would have to rate them as well worth it ive only had mine a short time thanks to ferals generosity ,but have fell in love with it. i have a 54lb it goes on my 15ft glass boat and my 14ft tinny and my canoe with outrigger it does a great job on the canoe it does a very good troll speed all the way up to i wish i could paddle THIS fast it wont plane though like the 2hp petrol motor does lol

as brian said dont leave them down when motoring as the prop nut undoes and the proopellor falls off

ive also had the slide thingy die but you can get a canopy slide doobery bit from bias etc for about five bucks which does the job fine

when/if i grow up id like the remote controll with compass and maximiser from min kota

It will depend on the battery you have / want to get.

I have a 36 salt, it powers my sons little boat at about 6khp.

Ray runs a 36 on his Tempo and it is like greased lightning, but the issue is speed, if you want to troll, the 36 is hard to keep slow enough, even on 1 they are getting along fairly quick. Mind you from memory the 18 your looking at is only 2 speed so might have the same problem.

With the 36 a 40amphour battery is dead flat after about half a days fishing for both Alex's boat and Ray's tempo (lots of trolling and moving about). a 60 should be the minimum for a full day for them, but Neither of them paddle at all, a 40 would do the job if your doing a reasonable amount of paddling yourself.

thanks guys for the info, I picked up the 30lb after a lot of f@#*ing about, should do the canoe nicely, note to self, always take item out of box and plastic bag and check item to make sure it is alright and not all scratched and leaking grease/oil before paying for item and taking it all the way home only to have to return it.

first I went to bias at slacks creek and the guy said they were on the pallet, I said I'll take one, he hummed and said can I take your number and I'll ring when we unpacked them. I told him I want it for tomorrow, he hummed and said it might get unpacked later this afternoon, I told him forget it, no wonder he is at slacks creek , went to bias at tingalpa, they had one left, I didn't check it properly got home and had to take it back as it looked used and leaking grease/oil , they refunded my money no probs, I finally then went to bias at virginia, pulled it out of the box, unwrapped it and checked it before taking it. So after all the stuffing around and fuel I didn't save all that much
