Bag and size limits

I don't take shovelnoses, rays, bass, bream(i've seen what they eat). I only keep all lizards over 40, as well as squire. I have a bag limit of 5 squire. My Dad doesn't take cod at all, although I do, but I would never keep one over 90cm and cod caught in crab pots are illegitimate by-catch and must be released. Most other things are fair game and I stick to at least a couple of centimetres over the limit. I try and keep things alive, and if I don't catch enough and it's not worth the effort, I release them all.

Personally, I reckon if your not gonna cook and eat all of that day, whats the point anyway? May as well go buy the crap woolies n coles have! ;)

I normally throw back everything (as i'm not that keen on fish anyway), except, the odd nice flatty (45 - 60cm). Cant beat the old tempura flathead. And squid; does that count?

I have to say tho, I've got a mate that will argue to the grave about keeping that one 25cm bream; just in case. Usually turns out he keeps him then doesn't catch anything else, ending up with us fighting about him wasting another fish; again. lol were like lil kids :silly:

N.B I'm only talking about estuary fishing, never had to pay for fuel to go out the front so I may be a bit biased here.

So does everybody else.

I let all snapper go unless they are over 45cm. All other species I let go unless they are at least 3 or 4 cm over the limit. If at all possible I attempt to release any big cod, AJ's and yellowtail kingfish.

I don't keep coral trout either. They are too pretty.

I think the size limit for bream should be at least 25cm. No point in keeping anything under 28cm in my opinion. Size for summer whiting should go up as well.

As of 1st March next year, the legal limit is going up to 25cm.

I agree with you on the 28cm. You can't get a decent fillet off anything smaller.

i don't know how many of you guys go to weigh ins at the moreton and redlands comps, if you see the size of the 1st place bream on ice, it makes you wonder why bream aren't 40cm to be legal, as these 1st place bream are pretty consistant, if you've never been to a weigh in, it's a must do, as the size of whiting, bream, and those bloody massive parrot will leave you gob smacked, it really will.

i am one who would like to see the bream size limit 30cm and a bag limit of 5 like squire, surely down the track the bream comps would be more competitive with more bigger bream gettin around, and a 40cm plus bream would not be so rare!!! i know their around now but would be nice to be a common capture..
