Ok, don't larf too much!

What defines Pelagic Fish? I keep reading about them but suddenly realised I don't know what is pelagic and what is not. Fishing for 8 months now, and I don't know it all yet, difficult thing to master, this fishing lark!!! (And reading magazines doesn't help as the nomenclature is never defined!!!)

TIA!

Your Pommy friend. XXX :fishing:

simple

look up the definition of "pelagic zone" and you will know what a pelagic species is.

the pelagic zone is actually the upper surface layers of the ocean.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelagic_zone

actually looking at wiki it has a different definition but in genral the pelagic zone is the upper layers.

seems the wiki definition is on the money as it describes the real ocean zones.

I would say in genral fishing terms the pelagic zone in the upper layers is pretty much the photic zone.

The light penetratable zone, surface layer.

dont mean to get all technical but the photic zone is probably the highest area of primary productivity on the earth, thats why big fish swim around there getting a feed.
