What cheap reel?

Recommended Posts

As my usual reel has given up on me, I am after a new one to go with my pflueger trion 2-4 Kg rod. My preference is a 2500 size reel for mostly bait work but once I get the hang of it, lures too. Also, I would like one that comes with 2 spools, I will fill one with 4lb fireline crystal, and the other with 8lb normal fireline. I don't have much money right now as ive got no proper job so im slowly making progress saving. I would like only a cheap reel maybe around $100 including the spare spool but not the line.

I was looking at a couple of the pflueger reels, and the Asaro looked ok for the price but I may be completely wrong. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks alot

Paul

Bite the bullet and save up for an expensive reel. Sell your body if you have to. It will only hurt the first couple of times but soon you will get used to it. It will all be worth it when you are playing with your shiny new stella or saltiga. :silly:

Seriously, not sure about the asaro but I have a pfleuger medalist and its the only cheap non daiwa/shimano spinning reel I have had that is worth a damn.Unfortunately medalists don't come any smaller than a 4000 size though, but other pfleuger offerings should be decent.

A good reel for a $100...Shimano 2500 Sedona. Comes with a spare spool. Nice solid little reel that will last a good while.

You can pick them up anywhere. Big W, Kmart and any tackle store.

The Trions are a nice rod and this reel will match it pretty well.

I started bassin with one of these on a Raider rod and that combo caught me hundreds of bass and yellas without any trouble.

Depends who I'm selling it too  After i get this reel the plan is to start saving for some better gear and hopefully get a job. That should help. If it helps people, I will be using the reel for the old bream and whiting ... landbased and when I can get out on the boat, I can use the 8lb for snapper and a few bigger things in deeper water.

go the old model daiwa exceler spin (they just released a new model)...i bought the old model about 6 months ago for about 180-200...but now with the new model out its about 90-110 i think...in that range somewhere..great reel, quite alot of drag, handles many fish including smallish brisbane river bulls, and snapper, and according to some staff at BCF smallish wahoo and mackerel out in the bay....
