queensland brissy river sat 6 june 09

decided to go out for a fish sat and join the rest of brisbane on the water ha ha.stayed in the river as everyone was out in the bay, so thought i would give the threadfin a go as i have never caught one. a quick ride from the pinkenba ramp and it was in with the electric and started my drift past the concrete wharf (dont know what everyone else calls it) thrid cast and my jackall was hit hard the fight lasted around 40 mins as i was using 6lb braid with 10 lb leader, after chasing the fish all over the place finally it surfaced a nice brissy river threadfin, my first and also over the magic metre mark.tried to release her but she was spent and didnt swim off, i'm a bit disappointed with that as they are such a beautiful fish. anyhow made a great feed. try to post up a pic or two.

Hahaha great to see mate! On a lure too! What Jackal did the damage? TN60?

Fantastic fish! I have since learnt when we got our 110cm that the big ones very rarely swim away! Cant help that unfortunately.

was he down deep in the pilons or nearer the surface, it would have been hairy as down deep that close to structure with 6lb awesome effort

I've read that upscaling your gear and hence making the fight shorter, gives the Threadies a much better chance of survival when you want to release them. Hard to imagine a tasty fish coming out of the brown murk that is the river! Well done Plugger, am very jealous!

another good'un is a hypodermic syringe to the swim bladder if its inflated, i have done this once and come up trumps on a good release. prior to doing that the fish was kicking but just too much air in him

thanks mate he was down on the bottom on a run out tide i just slowly hoped the lure near the pilons, thought he would have smoked me but as soon as i put what drag pressure i had on him he steamed out in the middle of the river

thanks kriso. i won the patch in my first bream comp at bribie placed 4th. then placed 1st in the tweed comp last month, i'm having a ball at the moment comp fishing, everyone is very helpful i recommend it to anyone no matter how good you are.
