Damn Squidgie Jig Heads

Recommended Posts

Went for a fish with some of the boys last night around new farm.

Flikkin some plastics around chasing whatever really.

Hooked up to something solid around 10:45pm which went for several screaming runs before ping.

Have I been busted?

Have I been bitten off?

No my jig head has been straightened.

Damn Squidgie jig heads. The fish was obviously a big fish, jewy or threaddie, but still, playing it with drag and patience I was a tad annoyed by the outcome.

Oh well it was a thrill for about 5 seconds anyway!

I will be back.

the jewie was fun on the bream gear heheheheh took a couple of runs hehehhe , but yeha invest in som berkly nitro jigs reasonable price if you know where to look, they do still bend but ive found not as bad as other ones.

Yeah man I usually use Nitro or TT. They were actually the first Squidgy ones I have ever bought!!

Fine for bream and stuff but yeah, wont make that mistake again!

Was it a round ball one? They seem to be the weakest in the Squidgie range... But I can recommend the darter ones. I can't see them straightening on many fish if the drag is done properly (ie not 10kgs of drag on a rampaging GT :P )

Yeah the round ones. I knew they were not the best so my own bad really!

Their Resin Heads are quite good, these are the only ones I use which are made by Squidgie. I only use FingaMaJigs, Gamakatsu and TT, all of them are brilliant and hopefully won't let me down in the near future.

Thanks TomW

Was a a good session and really nice to meet a few more of the guys. I certainy didn't have any problems with straightened jig heads (was using 1/4 ounce TT with 3" mango ripple shrimp) my bloody leader not failed when I tried to muscle my fish away from structure. Jury is still out on the slim beauty. Some times it holds a lot of pressure othetimes it fails. Guess I have to learn how to tie it consistantly. The fish felt very solid too. :(

Wes,

We fished more towards the Newstead end of Newfarm. Found a few ok looking spots around Teneriffe too.

Pretty sure fishing is not allowed on the walkway.

how do you tie yours dhess, do you double the braid then do 10 up 9 back or similar?

i tie mine with a triple overhand in the mono, pull until it turns into a figure 8 knot, thread the doubled braid in and out of the figure 8 (it will make sense if you think about it haha) then do 10 up 9 down

mine has failed once in about 4 months and thats cause i trimmed the mono tag too short

ps: how did you guys plan on lifting the fish up to the boardwalk along there with your bream gear? haha

unless you werent on the boardwalk

did you guys get much there? been meaning to give that place a go but i've been wondering about the seriousness of the no fishing signs. coz i've got a mate who got booked by council people for fishing there. no fine, but 2 strikes and you're off to the magistrates court. watched a council car drive all the way to the middle of the walkway to tell a group of guys to piss off once.
