Hi All

i just got in a few of these to look at and try out.

It weighs 30grams and the body is 60mm long. Has anyone used this type of lure before and if so what successes did they have with it.

Here are some pics of one of them.

I think it my be a bit big for bass but i may be wrong. I think it may have more use in saltwater applications due to its size. Threadies may like it

cheers

They look interesting, obviously for fish with big bucket mouths as the hook up rate on the normal mouthed fish would be much less due to the spinner being at the back. I reckon jewies would love these and definetly flathead. Goodluck with using them.

I gave something similar a crack last year at the dam ( landbased ). They snagged up on just about every cast because of the weight. They might be OK if your on top of the fish jigging.

Not a bad size for bass ( I've caught them on 100mm Jackalls )but the hook placement means the fish will often swipe the blade and not the lure body. They do the same with spinnerbaits but the stinger hook puts the odds in your favour a little more.

I reckon it would be worth taking one for deep schooled fish, you never know what they'll want on the day.

exact copy of the megabass doppler-x. Originally designed as a seabass lure to be cast and retrieved at varying speeds to vary the depth at which it swims.

they cast like bullets, but you need to slow down the line flow just before the lure hits the water or else 8/10 times the tail blade will foul on the leader.

barracuda loved them, and another malaysian high speed specie loved it too. the original had an additional tow point for a stinger double hook.

i reckon it'd be good for tailor here. no harm giving it a try. works well with a lift and fall technique from boat too.

I used to use the TT jig heads with the spinner blade and a atomic prong on em for threadie, never caught anything but I always bored easily lure fishing for threadie.

They look great for larger fish on the bite, I would try them I guess.

the threadie feels the vibrations when they hunt so they could be the goods..

let us know how they fare.

i have the same but with a shorter body. also it has a colorado leaf instead of a willow blade. it is 3/4 oz and it does cast a country mile. because of the colorado it has a slower thump thump and it doesnt snag too often. ive caught striped bass off of mine. here is a ling to show what it looks like.

They would have been dynamite on the bass scools casting from the bank at macgavins a couple of years ago. I reakon I could make them work on the bass.

I had the same idea mate but in "that" spot I had to hold the rod way up high and wind like buggery to get them over the snags and ledges. ( I miss that spot ) :(

I did get a good hit and it came back minus the spinner blade.

A version half the weight could be interesting though.

the tow point is fine as it needs to be located at the top of the body to give the lure a good action. just have no blade at all on the rear

The blade actually helps set out vibration and shines, stimulating a baitfish fleeing/shining.

Thanks TomW

yes its supposed to attract fish which i believe it does but there is no real need for it when the blade should make a good enough vibration and take away the blade and add another treble and you have more chance at hooking the fish.

ps: do you mean simulating a baitfish? or stimulating?

Does this lure vibe ? the ones I've used in the past don't. If it's similar to the ones I used, the blade is actually whats keeps the lure swimming. The spinning action send pulses through the water to attract the fish as well as creating the all important flash. Without the blade its a lump of painted metal that would have no action.

But if the lure is a vibe with a spinner...now that would be interesting.

mate when it comes to catching bass you could probably get an inanimate carbon rod to work

you are right about it having no action without the blade. The blade has to stay , otherwise, like you said, its just a lump of metal :( . I tried them at NPD yesteray with Ray and definitely think that they are better suited to saltwater action. Not a bad action on them, more flash than anything else. At 30 grams, they cast a country mile. I will wait and see what demand is like at the AFTA show before bringing any in.

cheers

sounds like a dissapointing lure, no action without the blade off the back :(. i think ill stick to tt blades and ecogear vx's

It is not a blade it is a tail spinner. A blade simulates a fleeing bait fish with its tight action a tail spinner is designed with an aggressive flashing action to induce a strike from a territorial fish like cod and golden perch. I had a bit of success with some Gary Howard ones a few years back but they have been hard to find of late.
