what happens now ?

hypothetical! all fuels are now ethanol based.

new outboards can't run on it, and even if so, it can not be sitting around for too long!

new cars don't like it!

bp are the only servo's who use ethanol in all their fuels at this point in time. but as i stated at the start of the thread.

so where do we go from here???

can't sell the boat, because everybody knows motors won't last on the crap??

buy new motors every 2 years???

your thoughts!

new cars will run on it fine, and you can actually achieve more power with a tune for ethanol then straight ULP. there has been many a independent test to prove it. the only reason its not recommended for boats is its hydroscopic nature and there has been reports of it not mixing as well when it comes to 2 stroke oils, so fourstrokes should be all peaches just use all the fuel and what you dont chuck in the car. its not far away that all fuels must contain a minuim of 10% ethanol in them anyway. thanks Kruddy!

guess we will be buying a additive of some type or new 2 stroke oils that mix with ethanol ok.

the little 2 stroke i got i think it has had unleaded and blended ethanol fuel and a mix of both and ran ok .fuel and oil look like it mixed ok .

but i have only put 10 liters through it so far and ran it about 5 times and 2, 4 hr trips on the river .so i guess time will tell.

i do try to make sure i just use normal unleaded for it and my mower.

as for my cars the Mazda luv's the ethanol .goes better doesn't ping.normal unleaded it pings a bit.

the old 60 series was a bit of a different story .it played up like a billy goat .

but fiddling and time has it sorted.now i have to setups for tuning it .1 for unleaded and 1 for ethanol.

while there is unleaded about i run it on that .ethanol is a last resort if that all i can get at the time .then it goes in ,change the timing and fuel mixture, and it runs ok.

I'm not sure if that is true mate. (it might be my own ignorance though, not trying to start a fight!) I would love to see any links to other website about it though if you have them handy. My understanding is that ethanol has a lower specific energy than unleaded, and as a result more needs to be burnt to achieve the same power output. Fuel consumption is also worse as a result.

As for BP fuels Noname, I'm pretty sure only their 91RON has ethanol in it at the moment.

This is all I could find on the issue:

Please login or register to view this image

Our ethanol unleaded blend, Unleaded 91, or e10 (containing 10% ethanol) is sold in New South Wales, where mandated requirements exist for biofuels, and Queensland. We have increased the number of sites where e10 is available in 2007-08, bringing it to a total of 185 sites. We are committed to working with government to meet and exceed targets for the supply of biofuels.

I can't find any mention of BP's premium petrol having ethanol. Also when ethanol blends are sold it is required to be clearly stated on each bowser. I had never noticed this before with 95RON at BP, but I rarely use BP so things may have changed!

AFAIK the servos only carry E10 with ethanol, all other fuels are ethanol free. (Some don't carry 91 as a result) E-blends will not replace whole petro products anytime soon because they can't be used in 2/4 strokes, plus the effects on marine equipment is well documented.

Chances are it will just become one big blunder industry "fad" as evidence starts mounting as to the damage that it does to vehicle fuel systems, the actual real-world "in-efficiency" of E-blends (I've experienced 15-20% average decrease in mileage running E10, but I've heard it's as high as -30%), and the actual carbon cost of growing, and refining ethanol.

E10 & compact fluorescent lights... Oh it's going to be an interesting decade.

(Fire-hazard from cheap compact circuits, carbon cost manufacturing the bulbs, mercury waste in our landfills, mercury poisoning from broken lights.. but alas I digress.)

There are many servo's around here that dont sell real unleaded anymore, only the ethanol blend.

Pretty much gotta go woolworths or caltex to guarantee you get real fuel now. Many Independents dont sell it anymore. Which is a shame, I used to support two local business servo's, not anymore.

personally i wouldn't use e fuel in my mower even if for free. i am not advising people not to use it but

maybe if you want your boat motor to conk out going through a bar crossing!

you need a few months off the water due to a rebuild on your outboard!!

cost's less to fill the car tank up to get 15/20 percent less distance!!!

carry a timing light to adjust the timing everytime real fuel and e fuel is used to stop the motor rattling it's head off {pinging}.
