Best jigging rod???

Recommended Posts

haha. have a look at the Shimano Jigwrex rods mate. they're quite good bang for the buck. Please dont buy the Daiwa Monstermesh rods. i've seen 4 break on a single charter. one was brand new as well..

I was also at another dinner where a Daiwa Japan rep was showing the lifting power of the Monstermesh rod, and it broke near the butt!.

go for the quality when buying a jigging rod, my advice is only buy 1, but a very good 1. i have some and there are stand out rods! it's a loomis, but at $1000 a pop it would want to be good. things to look for would be length of the rod, no longer than 6 foot 6 inches. around the 6 foot is spot on, look for long fore grips, prefer no gimbal butts myself. start at the 30kilo mark and only go up from there. also consider some of the spinning outfits around these days, some mighty fine gear out there by many manu's now that will easily handly big fish that were once unstoppables.

Funny sh!t. Did the rep commit hara kiri?

haha. man... the jeering that went off the moment the rod broke!!! and it was even before he had lifted the 10kg dead weight 2 feet off the ground!!!

the organizers tried to give him the benefit of doubt and asked the attendees present whether anyone had a brand new one back in their shops, so that they could fetch it back for the guy to try once more. hahaha. there was a show of hands but the daiwa rep absolutely refused to do it anymore. hahahha.. the monstermesh rods took forever to move after that. hahahha.

... Jigging is something I am hoping to get into a lot more over the next year:

yep me too, I've watched some awesome videos of the asians jigging around sea mountains and bringing up some crazy fish! I've tried doing it with a standard boat road, but it's just not the same... far as I can tell, you gotta have the right length, correct butt, particular flex

I'm speaking to the guys that make jigging master about a bulk order, if anyone else is interested in grabbing one for themselves it looks like I can get them for about $300 less than retail.

alot of the ones here are made of a graphite composite a mix of glass and graphite. i have a calstar graphiter in an 8 foot for throwing surface jigs. then i use an all glass 6'6 rod (ken-cor) for deep jigging. it has the leverage to bring up alot of weight and its pretty much indestructable. ive hooked into a 150lb + sting ray with a wingspan over 6'. i pretty much had him at the pier but it bent the 8/0 gamakatsu octopus straight. the glass tends to be a bit more sensitive on the tip. if your looking for a light jigging rod try the shimano calcutta made of tc4 (graphite glass comp) nice rod. but they dont make a heavy its heaviest is a 20-40lb. hope it helps.

Don't underestimate the cheapies. I purchased this Burkley dropshot jigging rod 3.5 years ago for $120 as a temporary rod for my saltiga 30 running 50lb braid until I could afford to upgrade and it is still going strong.

yes maverick. i bought mine for 120 american 10 years ago and its still goin strong. fiberglass rods tend to have a lot of lifting power and are a lot more durable than an all graphite rod. i have it paired with a quantum iron loaded with 65'b braid. and ive used it rock cod jiggin in 150 ft depths with a 1/2 kilo weight. that trip was tiring.

DUDE! you went jigging in 150ft with half a kilo in weight?!? that is crazy stuff, I think I need to get out and experiment more as I rarely hit anything deeper than 50ft.

thanks for the tips tho!!
