Habits of Estuary Cod?

Does anyone know or care to speculate on the seasonable habits of Estuary cod.

I am wondering really if they are a viable estaury target over winter.

They turn up more in summer report wise but im thinking this is largely due to people throwing big lures and live baits into snags chasing Jacks.

Will they be there in the winter as well?

Im pretty sure I am going to try my luck anyway, but keen to hear any thoughts or theories on this topic...

i lost a big one out at the mouth the other week while chasing bream

poor lil bream stick wasn't enough!

commonly caught after rain like we've just had as they come on the chew with food being washed down

ive got them summer and winter.

I think you will find that you see more caught in summer reports purely because there are more report done in summer.

The cold keeps some people of the water. And in Winter people are more interested in chasing snapper and the like.

a lot of the areas we fish for Jacks for in summer, we also fish in winter. Jacks still do have to eat, rock bars, pylons, jetty's etc also hold Trevs, Tailor and Bream all year round.

Personally I do think Cod slow there metabolic rate down as Jacks do

Give it a week or 2 Gus, offshore will be the only fishing worth a go with all the rain we have had

Good points. So more casts into likely structure, and maybe some midday fishing

Yeah I have been thinking that as well. Hopefully will be getting offshire in the next week as well.

was out at hope island last weekend ... a friend got a rock cod on HB ...

heaps of snags on walk way at the park ... he lost two lures on the rocks near where he got it

ive got a good reliable spot only accessible by boat in the nerang river that produces large cod all year round allthough best in summer have pulled large cod out in winter on live gar fish
