Hey guys i am just about to buy my first tinny and need a few questions answered by people who are not trying to sell me something. I have just started fishing after an injury has stopped me playing other sports. So i know nothing!!!!!!!! well almost

I live at cleveland so i will be fishing mainly in the bay, around the islands, the brisy river, the logan, the goldy and maybe close offshore at mooloolaba

I am looking to purchase a (approx)4.2m tinny with a 30 or 40 hp 2stroke. I have been looking at the new ally craft reel mate or a second hand boat out of the trading post. I have about $7000 all up to spend so i cant go crazy. What do you guys think new , secondhand, will these specs do what i want, are there thing to look for /look out for?????

also i will be decking it out with casting platforms etc and have noticed on the forum that people coat the ply with resin could i have the specific type of resin being used name, cost, place to get it, ect....

Finally Can you paint a second hand boat succesfully and what type of paint do you use to paint the hull????

Can't wait to hit the water will keep you guys posted

for that size boat, i'd def go with a 40, a 30 will do it but pfft. you won't be happy. there are some good 2nd hand boats kicking around the place. if buying 2nd hand. tip if it looks like it's had a makeover, my guess would be to stay away from it. remember your looking for a rig that has been genuinely looked after. not an abused one and fixer up jobbie, to be flogged off.the trailer , motor , and hull should be roughly in the same condition, used but still very good, also look for things such as heavy framework in the trailer, a spare wheel, 13 inch wheels,as it sounds like you will be doing some travelling. unfortunately most boats on the 2nd hand market will not have the hp i suggested, unless you just take your time. remember that saying. a stitch in time saves 9

So how much do you think i should be paying for a second hand one as described
mate, it depends on what level of electronic's etc etc, but you will find them around your budget if your on the ball, say from between 5000 and 7500 will certainly get you a beauty, under 2 year old, set up and ready to go. if you find 1 your thinking about, give me a bell if you like, and i can tag along, no worries there.
