sorry, no pictures, but i will do my best to describe it.

saw a red fish in a light pool, same colour as a deeply red jack when its caught. also looked similar to a jack, but not quite as deep bodied. it was swimming against strong current in the light pool completely ignoring 2" shrimp, not getting scared or paying any attention at all. not a moses perch and not a jack, don't think jacks would ignore something siting infront of their face and i dont think jacks are blood red when just swimming in the water

this was in the middle reaches

any idea what it could be?

I've had a school of Jacks, probably 7-10 of them, all around 15cm, completely ignore my SX40 (Raby Bay though :S ), and they were all brick red, so it could still be a Jack, but if it had a different body shape, dunno... I've seen some weirdly shaped Snapper and Bass, so maybe just a 'mutant'?... But who knows

sorry, forgot to mention the fish was around 20-25cm long. really dont think it was a jack as it wasnt deep bodied enough

Right. Dunno then, I had a browse through Wild Guide to Moreton Bay and couldn't find anything which still had a Bream/Jack kinda body shape with red colourations. Most red things didn't look anything like a Jack :S

Juvenile red emps are bright red, however they do have a white stripes, but mostly bright red.

What is a light pool?

Yeh saw something very similar at bretts one night, called it for a snapper

Maybe a very embarassed river perch as they are normally that light metallic purple colour or could have been the effect of the light.

river perch is a good shape to describe it, right kind of dimensions anyway. not a hint of silver on him though lol. oh well, another b.r mystery
