So got up this morning, and squinted out across the water from my beachside apartment at Burleigh Heads and saw a few boats very close together just offshore..

Thought to myself "jesus, must be a real close reef?"

Then heard on the news about another whale getting caught in the nets

Why can't they just get rid of the bloody things, they cause more harm than good and dont really stop sharks from swimming around them.

Its ridiculous.

I just hope we don't harm too many other animals in the name of "safety" before they're (the nets) removed!

Terry we all know you just want to get rid of the nets so you can do some landbased white pointer fishing off the beach.. :laugh:

I agree with getting rid of the nets, the sharks patrol the beach, they dont just see red and yellow flags from 5 mile offshore and head strait for them :laugh:

for the sake of the tourist dollar I am certain the nets will never leave the glitter strip.

Remove them through whale migration might be the answer

Of course what is interesting is that as the whales come back so will the big tigers and white pointers. Whale calf is one of their favourite feeds!

Shouldn't we get rid of the nets so the calves stop becoming trapped and a sitting duck for the tigers and whites then? lol
