shorebased spears

i was wondering if anybody knew any half decent spearing spots that are landbased around brissy general area? as ive just started out playing around with a hand spear, until i choose to upgrade to a speargun.

so just interested in some areas i can snorkel around in from the shore.

Round Brissy is tough, the water is either to dirty to see anything, or your not allowed near the structure. SPots that might work I reckon you stand a good chance of getting jagged by the fisho's there also trying to get a feed!

down the gold coast you can have a crack at a few places,

only the open ocean though,

theres places like palm beach reef but you would need to swim out a few hundred meters to hit some structure,

if your looking for land based spots to spear, ive got a fishing spot that recently has been taken over by bogans, Id be happy for you to come and spear a few of them and clean the spot up a bit..

or alternativly you could try scarbrough reef. i reackon it would be a great spearing spot

Pick a slow tide day and do some of the rock walls, like around the Redcliffe jetty, south of the Shorncliffe jetty. As mentioned I wouldn't do the jetties,. some pratt is likely to stick you with their bream hook!

if your bothering to drive theres a place called brunswick head near byron bay in some of the rivers theres some times a few rays but a hell lot of fish especially under the bridges

Try drifting in on the incomming tide at Currumbin, I have always picked up a feed there.

Catch a barge or water taxi to Straddie and have a go at Amity point along the rock wall. Plenty of good fish around. You need to be able to hold your breath and get deep to have a decent chance though.

Definitely not illegal. Only illegal in the green zones. I've looked into it and pretty much anywhere you can fish you can spear.

serious!? Lol i've been wanting to for so long but never have cause I thought it was illegal! Now my spears rubber has split lol. Maybe a lol cold to go spearing now I really wanna go lol

i had a look at the regulations your not allowed to spearfish within 100mtrs of any jettys in and south of noosa river and not allowed to spearfish jumpinpin and the southport broadwater including seaway

Amity is good but there are signs up now that say "No Spear Fishinh"

There are some other small reefs of the beaches as Stradie that go pretty good.
