goldnugget
Well I threw the idea out there a little while ago bout whether people would move and get away from the rat race and move to somewhere lets say...less stressful. Well we made the move, the whole family..me missus, and 4 kids, 2 dogs have moved from Raceview (Ipswich) to Pt Vernan (Hervey Bay). Been here a couple of weeks now and have our ups and downs. Pluses? Rent $80 a week cheaper...walking distance to both primary and high school for kids.....no fuel cycling....walking distance to fishing pretty much.....and a bus service thast delivers to your door. Now the negs....well 1 big one which isnt this places fault...my pajero crapped in my pocket...it was running a little rough, so I checked the plugs and one of them was a bit too tight and the f*&^ker snapped with thread stuck still in the head.....suprisingly a tow from my place was only $50 to the repairer but the repair is going to cost me a motsa I thinks...at least we are paying less rent and the kids can walk to school, and when I do the shopping the bus will drop me off at home :S ....but hey...I'm living the dream arent I?......guys?...reassure me here will ya? :woohoo:
Feral
I'm jealous I'd love to move somewhere quieter! Make sure you look up the fishntales forum and website, great bunch and a very social group. You'll get some new fishing buddies real quick! The plug removal should not cost to much unless they have to pull the head.

MoparKevUk
Sounds great! How do you and the wife go for jobs up that way? What's the difference in pay?
goldnugget
3rd time lucky for a post? damn thing keeps timing out. Loving it here...job scene is pretty localised by word of mouth, big service and tourism which is ok but no big 'foundry' or 'meatworks'...any loss in wages would be made up in saving on living, time, sanity. sadly having the family woith me is part of the deal with the move,....still got that when are we going home feeling which is a bit wierd. goldnugget
First few days was like an old fella playing with Viagra...had to take the rod everywhere I went just in case, regardless of tide and what everyone else was doing. Day 1 3inch flatty, day 2 2foot ray, day 3 saw a legal flatty on a fishing first for me...a plastic..well not oficially a plastic but Slam Bait. Davo_Dinkum
bugger about the car . the rest sounds good ,living the dream . i guess for the first month u will feel like when are we going home. we been out at somerset for 3 1/2 days . could breath well no blocked nose . back home for 1 night and all ready blocked up. other than getting away from the rat race, the fresher air and less pollution has to be good. kids able to walk to school, good stuff . bus for shops to door ,good stuff . able to walk to fishing spots ,good stuff. i figured work up that way would be tourism based. but that would be ok ,work hard and a lot when busy season ,fish a lot on the slow season. goldnugget
Thanks Guys. I guess 1 good thing is that at least we are here as far as the car goes, coz back in Ippy we would have been completely stuffed. The whole repair should cost around $700 which is ok since one of the heads is being pulled off and drilled out rethreaded and machined as well as the VRS kitand labour...another guy I went to get a quote from started at $1200 just for labour after he stopped laughing when I showed him the plug..naturaly I laughed at his quote and went back to the group offering nationwide waranty on repairs..and a heap cheaper. Workwise....I'll just have to keep an ear out...in the meantime we can afford it which is a big plus....Bit of luck we'll have the car back next Thursday, the kids will be finished with school, and we can go back to holiday mode ...I'm sure itll be sweet, getting to know all the local tricks for bait collection and what is allowed and what isnt ....there is a huge range of fish here thats for sure...I will need a boat for sure...many people here have more than one which seems a little unfair..ha ha ...maybe I'll stick an ad in the paper 'work wanted in return for boat'....
goldnugget
Its gonna sting me $830 for the repairs which isnt too bad I guess......irony is that by the time I get the car back kids would have finished school and will only need the car for shopping and fishing....oh well one out of two isnt bad. Hanging to catch some of the 40 cm whiting locals keep bragging about..read some of the reports on here from this way..weather is spot on right now..gotta get a boat lol...better get the car back first.
