evinrude trim and tilt woes!

hey all........well i have been having some issues with m trim and tilt of late.....with it working very randomly......when it doesnt work i just here a clicking noise coming from the solonoid.....just wondering if anyone had encountered a simila problem?

i also have disconnected the power to the solanoid and just run a wire direct from battery to both "raiseing wire" and "lowering wire" on the solanoid and still get the same clicking noise so i know it isnt an issue with getting power to the solanoid......

Based on what you said the first thing I would do is check the trim motor fuse is intact. If it is try cleaning its contacts.

Could also be a bad relay. (The clicking could be the relay moving but the relay could have bad contacts.) Trying rapping the relay with a screw driver handle and see if that helps.

sorry mate what is meant when u say rap the relay?

Whack it with a screwdriver handle. But if you tried directly powering the solenoid it doesn't sound like its a relay problem.

is it 1 of the trim motors that sit out beside the mounts for the outboard? or does it sit in between the rams.

they sit imbetween the rams.....

righto! it can be a number of things, as i'm sure your aware, solenoids rarely fail, but known to happen, i don't think they have an inline fuse as such. if it's working sometimes and not at other times, making a clicking noise, hmmm. do you know if the motor itself is getting warm when it's not operating? it's hard to say on a screen what it might be, but if your on the southside i can give you the number of a lad who is good, i mean good with outboards, and will charge a fair price and def not overcharges.

not sure if it gets hot whilst not in use hav neva checked but i will do.....yer if u know a bloke that'd b great if u could swing me his number.....where abouts is he located im at salisbury..?
