Looking for opinions on engines, pls

Currently have an old Mercury 18XD that has seen better days, is an 1985 model and I am prepared to spend any more cash on it.

Have been looking around a while, and have my eye on getting a brand new yamaha 15hp 2 stroke for about $2,700

Am looking for feedback on if its better to just look at getting an engine thats a year or 2 old ( are they like cars just depraciate real quick, and 1 - 2 year old is still fine? ) and save a bit of money.

I have figured the yamaha is better compared to getting a new Mercury 15hp, but am open to opinions.

My boat is only a 3.75m tinny. I mainly fish calm water, river mouth etc.

But would venture out into teh bay on a nice calm morning.

Any thoughts suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

mate in all seriousness, get prices on the merc 18 also the tohatsu 18, as they are the same motor and rockets for 18 hp motors.

also nothing wrong with getting a 2yr-5yr old motor with low hrs to save a few $$
