The Barramundi season opened on the east coast

on 1 February. With a good wet season in the north

it was expected that there would be some

interesting movements of fish.

Then how about this one.

This fish was part of a batch of fish released by the

Clermont Fish Stocking Group into Lake Theresa

near Clermont back in 2007. Some fish from that

batch have previously been recaptured in the

Mackenzie River down towards Bedford Weir at

Blackwater. However this is the first fish that has

made it all the way down to the Fitzroy River

estuary. The fish travelled around 700km and went

over 6 weirs and the Rockhampton Barrage to get

to the estuary. This is the greatest distance

recorded for a tagged Barramundi to have moved

in any river system.
