so it was pissing down here at home .

um and ared about going fishing .

bro rings just after 12 ,want to fish .

so i say bugger it ,lets go .

so by the time i load up the gear and canoe ,pick up my bro and head to tingalpa creek .

we get there just after 3 pm ,wanted to be there 130/2 pm ish .

but it takes time to load up and i got lost twice on the way ,missed a exit off the gate and made a left turn instead of a right .

so that's ok its only 2 hrs after high tide we still give it a try.

so we put at at rickertt rd ,beside the bridge.

went down near the train bridge ,fished the rocks .

was ok ,had the tide pulling us down river and the wind blowing us up river.

so a good slow drift back and across the rocks all by the wind and tide .

just started getting bites ,and boat and surf ski traffic started .

it was a pain , every time a boat come past we would wash up on the rocks .

so bugger it head down river .

so did some drifts back side of the small island opposite to where where all the boats are moored .

figured good spot for flathead , got a few catfish ,whiting but really small.

so moved on down to the mouth ,tide getting very low now .

so we fished and stuff about there for the rest of the arvo .

dam talk about no water ,had to walk the canoe about ,kept hitting bottom all the time .

so tried the left bank near lota creek mouth .

then the right side, boat ramp side out near the spit sort of area.

then fished off the big sand bank out front middle of the mouth area, since the channel runs beside it .

got some small whiting,i forgot to take a pic ,but they where the same size as the plastic they where hitting , 3 1/2 inch pumpkin seed .

i tried some small squidgies wriggler for whiting ,no luck .

heaps of small prawns around the shallows .

so i cast netted a few ,most to small and go through the holes in the net .

end up with a handful of medium size bays .

used some as bait ,rest came home fed them to my fish .

he luvs live prawns and shrimp for food .

so not a great fishing arvo ,but exploring a new place and being out for the arvo .

that's tops :).

here is some pic's.

cat_pumkim.jpg

catty on a pumpkin seed.

bream-20100221.jpg

tiny bream i got in the cast net ,cute little fella .:)

couldn't help myself and take a pic before he goes back .

sole.jpg

another tiny fella i got ,had to take a pic too.

little sole /flounder ,bloody tiny .:)

on the way back a gar jumped into the front of the canoe .

found him at the ramp ,we heard a nock.

but could see what it was ,it must of liked out running lights .

gar.jpg

took a pic of it today ,its frozen and added to my bait box.

this would be about the average size of the prawns i got .

i reckon a bucket full would have been good .

prawn-20100221.jpg

i fished one of the prawns out of the tank and took a pic as well.

they dead now ,being in fresh over night .

but that ok mic jaguar will still eat them .

didn't get any pic of any of the whiting ,bro caught them .

i was busy cast netting and forgot till they where all ready back in the water.

would have made a good post your hook up shots .lol

bro rang at 12.30 today wanting to fish but i have to do the house stuff today .:(

so my fish could eat them .

he don't care whither there fresh or salt fish .

the tank runs some salt ,5 gram /about a teaspoon per 5 liters.

the shrimp and prawns from kooka park live ,i'm not sure if these guys died from the fresh or if he killed them all.

as soon as i put them he was having a field day ,hitting them ,eating .

i thought about freezing them for bait but it more fun watching him kill and eat.

brad

i got 10 about that size out of 3 casts .

it was the right side of the river ,after the boat ramp near the mouth .

on the sand / rock/ mud flats .

was walking around in 2 foot of water ,casting there.

tried a few more spots deeper water and trying to cast out of the canoe , got nothing .

just to hard to stand and cast out of the canoe with another person in it .

after that i didn't go back to that spot as my bro wanted to fish .

reckon if i got 20 of them i would have kept them for a feed.

i will be going back for prawns sometime .

reckon with the sounder and a better time of tide ,and in the tinny so i can cast from it .

Good report Dave, I know the area pretty well where you spent the day. I lived on one of those moored houseboats that you seen for 3 years.

The big sand island that you spoke about at the mouth of the creek is where i pump all my yabbies, it seems to produce the biggest yabbies ive ever seen.

Drifting around that little island near all the houseboats is a great spot for flathead, I used to take my row boat around the other side and theres a nice big sand bank full of flathead waiting to ambush passing herring, mullet..etc.....

The water traffic in there can get rather annoying at times, I am guilty of waving my fists at passin jet skis and boats that dont know what 6 knots means but most times they just gave me the finger and kept on going.

I reckon give the creek another month and the prawns will be a bit bigger and worth the effort.

That creek has many moods, and it is full of life, you only have to throw the cast net around to quickly find that out.

Glad you had a bit of fun on saturday mate...cheers Beejay

it is full of life

yeah thats for sure .

small sole ,bream ,whiting ,gar all healthy lookin too .

if there is little fellas there is big ones too .

cheers for the tips .

yeps i want to check out the back side of the island again .

it just screams flathead to me .

i don't mind when i miss the tide and end up doing a low tide trip .

i reckon it the best way to work out the layout of the river /creek .

look for the flatty holes ,the sandbar ,channels, rocks etc .

easier than reading the sounder lol.

yeah theres nothing better than local knowledge for a place like the tingalpa creek. Believe it or not, I can get my 17ft Yalta Craft through the mouth of that creek without touching the sand, only because I lived there and I know exactly where the channels are, and believe me, the channel is not between the channel markers....lmao

Next time you go, if you go up to the next road bridge, (rickerts road Bridge) go under it and head up to the bend about 250 meters up further, theres a really deep set of holes up on that corner that drop from about 2ft to about 30ft.

Ive caught some nice fish up there over the years, including whiting,Bream, Jew, Flathead...etc

Ive seen some really big Jew caught in the creek to. At night you get some really good sized estuary cod running through the creek, and ive caught plenty of big Estuary cod in my crab pots over the years in the creek.

Ive never had any trouble getting a feed of Muddies in there as well.

Did you see the big 45 ft houseboat up on the beach down there? That belongs to my mum and her partner. It sunk about 6 weeks ago and we only refloated it a few weeks back.

I dont know if you noticed but to the right of that big houseboat on the beach, there is a little creek that runs through there.

I used to drop my pots in there loaded with catfish frames and I caught the biggest muddie ive ever seen. I measured the carapace and it was 22 cm and it was a male as well, so theres another spot worth a try mate. Cheers Beejay

yeps saw the houseboat .

and the creek.

saw a few little creek and inlets ,always lookin for them .

nice i will have to check them holes out .:)

believe me, the channel is not between the channel markers....lmao

yeah we worked that out coming back in .

we prob wasted a hr screwing about and walking and trying to paddle back in ,but to much current running out to paddle against proper .

in a canoe u think u could almost anywhere ,but with a motor ,either the electric or petrol u can't :(.

it was sort of funny as we got back in we watched 2 boats just putt out no problems .
