Any tips for threadfin salmon at colmslie reserve?

Hello all!

Just joined this sit and just started fishing the brisbane river!

Have heard that you can catch threadfin salmon at night at colmslie.

Does anyone have any tips for a rig?... or which tide to fish? ... night or early morning?

I have a 12 ft beach rod and was thinking I could cast as far out as possible with that, try and get into the deeper water.

Any advice would be appreciated

Other blokes will have better advice than me. Live prawns or poddy mullet usually does the trick mate. Have a look through the brisbane river thready reports in the "fishing reports" section.

I've soaked many a prawn from the pontoon for no joy.

So my biggest tip: put in the hours.

Castnet for some livies off the floating pontoon, and fish off there too.

Just don't be like some of the ignorant ppl that fish off the pontoon that wound wind in there lines or make room when a boat comes in..

It's up the rd mate towards the fish factory,near hq the hockey fields..

Turn into Col Gardner Drive off Lytton Road.

fish high tide then the outgoing at dusk.

get a cast net and catch live prawns, mullet herring and pilchards for bait, do a search and see how to hook em up (through the tail mostly, keeps em kickin)

Mono or Braid- 15 - 20lb with a 30 -40 lb leader, no 2 cirlce hook and medium sinker.

Live bait and a good rigg will help you, then just fish at the right times.

Beach rod wont improve you catch rate especially at Colmslie, the deep water is too far away. 30 meter cast will be fine.Remember fish venture close to the shallows at night and dusk (but in saying that it couldn't hurt to throw a big cast to get it out there at Colmslie, just be gentle on the live bait).

I have seen 2 many people rigg up ridiculous riggs with the wrong hooks, bait and massive sinkers only to catch catfish.

see plenty of people fishing off there during the week. lot of guys using live bait and frozen. not to sure how they go for threadies, seen a lot of catties come in. just dont park your car on the boat ramp like some morons have been doing. people get upset

I saw about 4 cars lined up along the boat ramp the other night. We take the boat there, and it's my mates first boat so he isn't the best reverser yet, and it takes up so much space, making it hard for the young fella to get to the water easily.

yeah i couldnt believe it when we turned up. we actually had to tell them to move there cars. they parked side by side the wankers i dont think they could understand the language i was speaking, they werent from australia put it that way!!
