long or short?

I like 7-8ft rods generally

For sharking 5.5ft rods

I think generally speaking longer rods are better for casting - distance wise at least, and shorter rods allow you to apply more pressure directly onto the fish as there's less cushioning effect from the rod

Funny you guys - Just cause Terry catches bigger fsh then you doesn't mean you should pick on him for the rest of his life. Are sharks counted as fish?:P

My fav rod at the momment is a 7'2\" bream stick. I can throw a SP as far as I want, it has good response to the action I give it and it feels great in hand especially matched with a small egg beater and braid.

Cmon Feral, where's the fun/effort in that?

We really should stay on the topic of rod length here... :)

I dunno Terry, I reckon watching your eyes bulging as your car got dragged out to sea would be fun! THAT would make a good yarn!

Mate id have to say for your type of fishing a longer rod would be better. Longer and lighter.

Fishing that canal with bait i would actually go to the extreme of a nibble tip. This would also aid in your concern regarding hooking the fish.

Good luck mate.
